Death Metal Kitty

I plan to visit the UK for a vacation starting at Huddersfield, please recommend places to see and visit.?

Currently my flight plans include flying into Manchester, then I'll be at Huddersfield only for 2 or 3 days to sort some matters, and then I plan to work my way down to London.

I'll be around for a month, please recommend places to stop, stay, visit and see as I work my way from Huddersfield up to Scotland for a brief staint, and eventually down to London.

London has to be my last stop because 1, I'll be flying from Heathrow, 2, I plan to visit Canterbury for 4 days minimum to see old friends and my Uni.

As of now I plan to do Scotland, Birmingham, Shiffield, Bath, York, the Lake Districts, maybe Nottingham, might see Manchester and/or Leeds, that's unconfirmed yet. O yeah, and Stonehenge.

What is happening is that I plan to bring my girlfriend to see the UK, I've never really travelled when I was there so I plan to see the sights now, afterall, Reading Rock, Glastonbury or Ozzfest isn't exactly tourist-isy.

Can anyone suggest place to see in those places or others? Thx.

Aye lad full o us northerners up ere, nowt like them southern softies wi them fancy air do's and gold teeth.
Round these parts we do ferret racing and clog dancin an stuff.

If you are here for a few days, you could visit Howarth, where the Bronte sisters lived and wrote many of their books. Bit twee and touristy, but ok.
Howarth is also home to the Worth Valley Railway - if you like old fashioned steam trains, then you will want to visit this.

Oakwell hall in nearby Batley is a fine medieval mansion and the site of a battle between the Parliamentarians and the Royalists in the English Civil War. Interesting to look around and set in lovely grounds.
Close to Oakwell is Red House museum. This old house is where the Brote sisters stayed regularly and is mentioned in their books. Supposedly a fine museum, although even though it used to be on my doorstep, I never visited it.

In nearby Bradford, you have the national museum of film and television, the Alhambra theatre and lots of dark satanic mills.

Of course then there's the Pennines, absolutely beautiful, uspoilt countryside, though be very careful up there, the weather can really catch you out, take sensible clothing even in summer.

Lots to do and see, and don't be puzzled if you get served in a shop and the shop assistant calls you "love"; as in "there's your change love".
Just how we friendly, open northerners speak, but then as them theer southern uns say "it's grim up north".

hope you enjoy yourself.

very proud mummy :)

When you are in Sheffield, I would recommend visiting the Peak District and if your girlfriend likes to shop, she will really like the mall there.
If you like history or interesting events, visit Jorvik in York. Otherwise, York is a great place to just walk around in visiting the Shambles, the Minister, and everything else.
And you will not have problems figuring out things to do in London.
What part of Scotland are you visiting? Glasglow, Edinburgh, the Highlands? B/C that makes a difference in what you see and do.

Huddersfield is crap, theres nothing there. Theres lots of nicer places in the UK that you should visit.
Newcastle is nice. You could go to The Metro Centre, and see the Angel Of The North.
You could go to Northumbria to see Hadrians Wall. Britain is seeped in history, but you won't find a lot in Huddersfield.

And if your down south for long, try and go to Shakespeare country and go Stratford upon Avon, it's not too far from Stonehenge.
Hope you have a good time
