Mr. Owl

I think my British friend might be missing, should I call the police (I'm not in England)?

Hi,

I only have her mobile number and know the town where she lives. It's been 4 days I haven't heard from her.. she never disappears like that so I'm worried she might be in trouble.

Should I call the police even though I'm not a UK resident? Could they help if I only gave them her name and surname?

Please help
Additional Details
her phone is ringing

Give it a bit longer. Is her phone ringing or turned off? Leave a voice mail and see if she gets back. I doubt if the police will react at this moment. Good luck

Additional info
If you have her name and town go to 192.com and see if she has a land line

You could call the none emergency number of the local police of what ever town she lives in. You should be able to find the local police station in her town at this website. Just type police and location.

Rather be safe then sorry. I mean, maybe she lost her phone or whatever, but if you feel things maybe up, call the police over there, and give them the information you have. And tell them your not sure, you just want them to take a look, and make sure everything is okay. You do not have to tell them who you are etc etc....hopefully you will hear from your friend soon!
I hope I was able to help & everything works out. =]

I would call them if she was a close friend who I kept in touch with on a daily basis.

Hey
I wouldn't call the police not yet...
Has she got any friends or family that you can track down go on to www.118118.co.uk and type in their name you might be able to get through to them.
And if you don't have any luck submit her into www.missingpersons.co.uk
Instead of ringing the police try finding the british police help line NOT 999.
They wouldn't really be able to help with just her name...look she could just be busy or with friends.
Do you know her address?
I wouldn't ring 999 though just try the helpline

It is always OK to call the police if you are really concerned for someone's safety.

However, have you tried making contact with her other than via her mobile phone? Is there anyone else you can call (or e-mail) first? There are many reasons why she might be out of contact via her phone, including having it break or losing it.

It doesn't matter that you're not a UK resident - if you believe that your friend may have gone missing, then the police would much rather hear from you now than only realise a fortnight later when it's too late.

They will be able to find out a lot about her if you tell them her name and approximate age, and preferably the city or county where she lives.

Do you know the names of anyone that she lives with / is friends with in the UK? You could look them up at www.yell.com and then ring them.

chezliz
Yes if you are so concerned. You know what she is like and if this is out of character then you would be showing true friendship by trying to find out if she is ok. I hope you hear from her soon.

TAFF is spot-on, try not to panic, she may be just a little under the weather and laid up in bed, or her mobile is lost or stolen. Try other ways like TAFF said, to get in touch.

Good luck, hope she's OK......X

er_noidea
They can, but I don't think they would unless she's been threatened or the like in the past, I think that they would say it's her right to anonymity.

If you do decide to call them get the number for the station in the town where she lives and speak to them direct, as I said I don't think you'll get very far but it's worth a go.

No you shouldn't, get the hint she doesn't want to talk to you. You are just going to cause a huge international mess and she is not reported missing in England then do not bother.

Laura R
Hi ok so the police has MANY missing people. Some are people who runaway from their lives, so technically are not missing. If you live so far away they will probably tell you you should a while because they have a limit to answering missing people calls I think the person has to be missing for 24 hours of 2 days im not sure. Maybe she just wanted to get away for a while. You should wait some more andif not report it to the police.

crayonpafc
she might not even be missing - dont over react she might just b busy or not able to contact you so dont threat

Slug
yes

call the police and say your name is mccann

they will react immediately
