I want to go to the UK soon! Where are some cool places to go?

I'm 18 & not really into the whole "tourist attraction" thing. [probably because I live in Orlando, Florida] I'd like to know some fun places locals enjoy hanging out at; parks, clubs, restaurants, bars, coffeeshops etc; I'd also like to visit a cool museum, castles, etc.

Any suggestions?

Anything is greatly appreciated!

Bath is great for historical things to visit (Roman Baths, costume museums, etc).

Stratford is similar - and interesting in particular to people who like Shakespeare.

Manchester is apparently great for clubbing.

Wales has some absolutely beautiful scenery (mountains) whilst in Cornwall and Devon there are beautiful beaches and coastal scenes. The Lake District is also quite picturesque.

Oxford and Cambridge are interesting if you are into learning about the universities.

Castles: Hever castle is nice (in Kent) and Leeds castle is great apparently but here is a site that lists them all http://www.castlexplorer.co.uk/

Most of the major cities here have bus tours which are well worth it.

ok here we go ........ i am an englishman and have travelled extensively around my country and here are some great places.... York (it has probably the most interesting sites other than London for heritage and Englishness ) also Derbyshire where i now live is fantastic especially Carsington water , or even Matlock bath, and Nottingham. I come from Manchester so if you want night life then theres the place to be. Nightlife ,clubs etc Manchester has one of the most densley populated places and there is a great variety too. London obviously is the place to go but England is the best place on earth ........................ if the weather is ok lol. Hope you have a great stay in ''ole blighty'' and if you need any more help and wanna come and stay near where i live ( which is quintessentially english ) then don't hesitate to ask.

Trust me, you'll LOVE London!

Hey there, it all really depends on where you are going. Each country has something different. I would go to Globe Trekker's website (you can do a search through yahoo or google) and they usually go to "out there" places that aren't on most tourists lists. Good luck and have a blast!!!

York (The Viking Centre is good), Chester (quaint), for musems you just cannot beat London (Natural History Museum and the Science Museum are really cool), Stonehenge, The Norfolk Broads (hire a boat for a couple of days). Edinburgh for the castle & night life.

Birmingham - more miles of canals than Venice (and they have been recently renovated too) and some banging nightlife on Broad Street, the Botanical Gardens and the Art museum, the Bull Ring for shopping and close by we have Warwick (FANTASTIC castle), Stratford on Avon - Shakespeare - but maybe that's a bit too "tourist", Evesham (the Garden of England), the Black Country Museum - the list is endless.

Enjoy your stay in the UK.

Try London first (depending on how much time you have) then go to Wales for Castles or Scotland. Any city for clubs, just have fun when your here,

Where in the UK are you going? Scotland, England, Wales or Northern Ireland?

If you are going to Scotland then head to Glasgow, its the biggest city in Scotland and was recently voted as one of the best cities to visit in the world! It is like the 3rd biggest city in the UK for shopping (I think only London and Manchester have better shops) and has fantastic nightlife from pubs and clubs to live music venues. Plus it has lots of museums, an art gallery and loads of other historic buildings. And the people are great too!

And you are not too far away from the famous Loch Lomond - one of the most beautiful places int he UK. Its about 1 hr drive away from Glasgow. There are loads of castles in that area - Madonna got married in one!

Chester is a beautiful city with brilliant nightlife, shopping, history. Very close to North Wales which has some beautiful castles, see www.cadwwales.gov.uk. There's Conwy and Caernarfon and Beaumaris on the island of Anglesey just off the North Wales coast. From this area you can also visit the Snowdonia National Park for mountain walking in some fabulous scenery www.snowdonia-wales.net. If staying in North Wales would recommend staying in Llandudno - a Victorian seaside resort. A really pretty setting with plenty of reasonable B&B's and a great night out with plenty of bars and a couple of nightclubs. www.llandudno.com. If going to Scotland, Edinburgh is a lovely city as is Inverness. York is also a great place to be based to visit Yorkshire. There is a lot packed into our little island...enjoy!
