For a really upmarket shopping experience I heartily recommend Fortnum & Masons, fantastic and unadulterated luxury - it is also a great place to eat. Close by is also the Royal Academy or walk up Bond Street.

I can also recommend the Duck Tour.

Suzy
What on Earth do you mean "We are both 45 ish so nothing too strenuous"?? I am 46, but clearly physically younger than you and recently dragged my Mother out for a day in good old London Town..

We were lucky enough to have been included in an MPs tour of the Houses of Parliament and on top of this tour visited the Keep Tower and a Gerald Scarfe exhibition at Portcullis House - these latter two being the oldest and newest parliamentary buildings... After about four hours of fascinating tourism we enjoyed a lovely coffee on Westminster Bridge before braving the journey home by tube..

My Mum - a mere 85 - thoroughly enjoyed her day out..

A less strenuous itinerary for you and your friend? May I recommend the London Eye plus one or more of the following:-
Thames Boat Trip
Big London Bus Tour
Duck Tour
London Aquarium

I have no experience of the following website so cannot recommend but it does appear to have information on most of the things I have mentioned!:-

Alternatively why not visit Madam Tussauds while the kids are at school, great fun!!

If you have time why not catch a show and have a lovely meal? Check last minute dot com for inspiration http://www.lastminute.com/?skin=lmnukgoogle&bbcam=adwds&bbkid=%5Blast+minute%5D&x

Whatever you choose to do have a great time.. And please, stop making out you are old - there is plenty of time for that!

The first answer makes me smile...a river cruise in England in november.. yeah...right. Best of luck.

It's easy, the theatre...maybe dinner as well. The only question is which show to see?

As a personal opinion, The Lion King is very good if musicals are your taste.

The Tate is good, plenty of amazing art to look at and talk about.

Also, if I recall rightly it's free, though you may have to pay a small amount to get into some events and exhibitions. It's always nice to give a donation.
There's lots to see and the Turner Prize exhibit is currently running.

This choice should leave you with plenty of money for a fancy dinner afterwards ; )

Aquarium by the London eye.
It is very nice and exciting all the time.
I am sure it will be good memory for you later too.
Enjoy.

An extra thing to do could maybe be ice skating on one of the outdoor ice rinks? Tht would be fun :)

You’ll find that there is so much to do on London’s South Bank that you’ll want to extend your stay. Whether you want to scale the dizzy heights and see the city from the London Eye, or take a gastro-tour on the Thames Flyer 12-seater luxury speedboat. You may want to immerse yourself in the culture of the Southbank Centre or wander agog through the plethora of shops on Lower Marsh, there truly is something for everyone and every taste in this amazing part of London. You say nothing too strenuous, and I think travelling from one side of the city to another is tiring whereas if you base yourself on the Southbank you don't need to go anywhere else.

Love, Mandy
