I would say Ullswater, it is near to Windermere but doesnt have the bad weather! It is tranquil and has some good mountain ranges - if you are after a good holiday with walking and beauty, Ullswater is the place to go! There are some really nice campsites on the waters edge and it isnt to far away from the M6 but far enough to be in the country!

all of the lake district is beautiful. i went 2 years running i loved so much. hawkshead and grasmere are lovely. we stayed on lake windermere which is a good base to start from. you have to visit hill top which was where beatrix potter lived. amazing to see in live what we know from her books. wherever you go you will love it anyway

It's all lovely. Derwent Water is particularly tranquil.

It's an interesting theory that Ullswaters weather isn't as bad as Windermeres! I live in the lakes and would not recommend Windermere unless you like somewhere a little bit too commercial, not my thing but does apeal to some. I would sugest you just pick a site and go there then explore. It's all beautiful and if you are in a car you can travel around and see a lot in 2 weeks.
Enjoy your visit, hope it doesn't rain too much!

I live in the Lake District, all of the places are great so which ever one you choose, you're picking a good one :)

Anywhere in the Lakes is spot on. Boot in Eskdale is rugged and remote with Englands highest mountain on your doorstep.
