I agree with the York trip. If architecture and history are big interests for you, it's a great place. There's numerous things to do and see just in the City Centre and all of it's easy to walk to. I've seen the Jorvik iking Centre, walked the city walls, stopped at the Micklegate Bar museum and the Richard III Museum in Monk Bar. There's Clifford's Tower, and right by it is the York Castle Museum. On the other end of the City Centre is York Minster which is stunning, and right by is the Museum Gardens, the remains of St Mary's Abbey, and if you are into church architecture York has many stunning medieval parish churches. My personal favourites are St Denis and Holy Trinity, Micklegate. And I also never noticed tons of crowds of tourists any of the times I visited. |

You can do Stonehenge and Bath on a coach in one day. Pickups at several popular hotels.
You might consider a day out in York, its very easy from Kings cross station. Its quite a way out of London but less than 2 hours by train and a nice place to walk around. Lots of things to see and do. York Minster, Jorvik centre (viking village), the city walls, boat trip on the river, national railway museum, medieval hall (barley hall), medieval pattern of streets with lots of lovely shops. A mini castle (Clifford's Tower) 2 more great museums. Many very old churches, Betty's Tea Rooms. Race course. |

Hampton court is probably the easiest outside london to get to. I would suggest visiting the websites of English Heritage and the National Trust as most historical properties in England are owned by one or the other of these.
I really like Knole House and Deer Park which is just glorious if you bring a picnic - the deer come right up to you and there is a huge house and gardens to explore - it's owned by the national trust and is near Sevenoaks in Kent. |

there's so many places you could go .... Oxford (university city), Cambridge (the other university city, with punting on the river), Canterbury (England's premier cathedral), Colchester (Roman antiquities, civil war, castle), Warwick Castle (history and re-enactments), Windsor (castle), Brighton (artistic seaside town, George IV's Pavilion), Bath (Roman baths), Bristol (ancient port, Georgian architecture), Salisbury and Stonehenge (ancient ruins and lovely cathedral) ... even further afield there's York (the Minster and Viking invaders), Durham (the most beautiful cathedral in England), Edinburgh (capital of Scotland and so much history), Cardiff (capital of Wales, and there's loads and loads of castles scattered all over Wales)
oh I could go on and on |

Arundal Castle is pretty impressive, 1hr 30 mins direct from Victoria Train station, direct to Arundal station (you can see the castle from the train station so no worries about getting lost) |

Depends on your interests. Buckingham palace and the changing of the guards is a good bet. There are also many museums , cathedrals , churches as well as The Tower of London etc. the choices depend on your particular interests. |
