Hove is best for flats (what we call apartments in the UK) It's joined with Brighton so you'll be nice and close. I'm assuming you'll be renting so look at fish4homes.co.uk and select brighton and hove. Good luck. Brighton is brilliant, yes it has a large gay community but it's nice and tolerant and easy going (on the whole) and no one forces their lifestyles in anyone else's faces.

Brighton? It's a nice town...I hope you are "flamboyant", a lot of people there are.

The nearer you are to the city centre the more expensive property becomes, whether buying or renting. Also the parking is more difficult.

Brighton & Hove is now one town. Hove is the more residential area but still expensive. However if you move a little further inland, maybe just 20 minutes walk from the sea, property becomes cheaper.

Try looking for an apartment in an area called Poets corner. The property is older there, built over 100 years ago, but a nice area. Contact any estate agents (simply type Estate Agents, Brighton England into your search engine - Google, Yahoo etc and you'll find plenty) and write asking for apartments in Poets Corner.

These apartments are converted houses as opposed to purpose built blocks.

If you find these are too expensive try going further afield.
Seaford is a town on the coast about 12 miles (20k) from Brighton but there are buses every 10 minutes taking you into town. The apartments are far cheaper there.
