Why not try a low cost airline to Edinburgh , stay in a Travel Inn or equivalent, and tour around, taking in Stirling and Fife as well as the Edinburgh area? I would suggest the Travel Inn at South Queensferry as a base with its amazing views of the Forth Bridges.
A Friday to Monday break will whet your appetite and you'll soon be back for a longer holiday. |

Why not visit the Cotswolds? It's not too far to travel from London (about 2 hrs by car, may be a bit more), the scenery is spectacular and you can stay in lovely little villages. |

Hi
I'd have to say Scotland is your best bet. If you go to either of the big citys up there - Edinburgh or Glasgow - the history is there waiting for you. I've heard that Edinburgh is better as Glasgow is just shops, but as I've never been there I wouldn't like to say for sure. A short journey out of the city centre will ensure you get the best scenery the country has to offer, though not quite on the same scale as Canada!
If that is too far away, the Lakes are a good place to go but it is more countryfied, smaller and touristy in high season. Though you can d othe literature trail with the Romantic poets having a strong connectino to the Lakes. |
