If given a choice, would you rather live in UK or Australia? |
I have two choices and I can't decide where I want to go. I'm an accounting and finance graduate and don't know what location would be good for me. My top priority is career.
Can you tell me which is better UK or Australia? And why do you feel this way? |

Given your top priority, you should research the background of the two companies who made you offers and have a solid understanding of the growth and advancement opportunities.
Here are other factors:
1) where are most of your friends & family? Do you plan to visit them? do you want them to visit you? Research the cost of travel to U.K and to Australia.
2) Cost of living:
I've lived in both countries. It's marginally cheaper to live in Australia. It also depends on which part of the countries you will be working/living in.
3) personal interest/activities:
Career is 1st, but you gotta take a break sometime. What do you like to do on your time off? The available options in the two counties vary greatly. Keep in mind that the U.K. is smaller than the size of an average "state" in the U.S. and Australia. Better to compare Australia to Europe. UK and Europe has much more places of historical/cultural significance; Australia has more exotic locations & wildlife. Skiing in Europe; Surfing in Australia; etc.
4) Back to career: what if the job doesn't work out? are there similar companies there you can work for without moving (back?) to your home country? Who is (or will be) paying for relocation expenses?
5) personal health. Do you have any special medical condition that require special care? I'd venture a guess that U.K./Europe has the better options when it comes to medical specialists.
I recommend making a list of the strengths and weaknesses of each of the two destinations and make a careful comparison.
Good luck. Sounds like you have an adventure in your future. |

I'd rather be in Austrialia as money goes further over there and the weather is better. |

Australia
the UK is more expensive to live in (although Australia is also not cheap)
obviously Australia has better weather and possibly a better healthier lifestyle as a result
you could have a reasonable career in your field in either country but perhaps career is one area where the UK just edges it.
there are many things to see and do and experience in UK and it is a wonderful country to visit but to LIVE in I would definitely say Australia, no doubt.
you can always holiday in England, but the bottom line is
Australia is just ten times more liveable, o it is your best choice in that respect. |

I know both people from both countries.
As for career, you could start job postings online, and see which is better.
Personally, I'd rather live in U.K., I don't know why I feel this way, just seems a better choice, but then again, it's not me to make that decision for you.. It's you to make the decision, I'm just helping putting input. :) |

Australia!
Australia is a one of a kind country. It has such beautiful things. World ... sites! (i can't think of the word!)
Stunning beaches.
Uluru.
Outback.
Different wildlife.
The people and communities are more laid back.
Lovely weather.
Uk has... more rain..
Less social people.
Barely any nice beaches.
Dull weather.
........ money.
But the houses and other things are more expensive so the money really just goes on that.
Go to Australia. You won't regret it. |

definetely, 100% australia because the weather is wonderful, it has a low cost of living, beautiful landscapes, polite and friendly people, excellent communication, no racism(bullying) etc.. the list is endless. Where ever you go, may god bless you and live a wonderful life! good luck!
P.S:- pray to god every day to show you the right way |

If you are in Accounting the UK is probably the best place. Most of the big accounting and finance companies have a base in the UK. I do not think that there is much big business happening in Australia. |

Australia if it was closer, but its not so i will stick with the UK.
But who knows if it will get worse or how long it will take.
If it does I think I will emigrate but its not got that bad yet.....
Though I do think the Australian government is better run than ours from what I see and read |

definately uk.
firstly, better atmosphere....hello: football!!!
secondly, uk will get you further
thirdly....and no offence to any australians out there, but there are more sheep than people in australia.

I'd rather live in Britain, because it is my home country and this is where all my friends and family live.
However, property prices are more reasonable in Australia, and the weather is nice. |

I''d vote Britain but that's because I'm British and I have lived in Australia and NZ and suffered dreadful homesickness. Australia is a beautiful country with amazing scenery but it just doesn't have the culture and history of the UK. The UK has a better music scene, better comedy, better TV, better pubs, better sense of humour, better architecture, better museums, and it is so easy to visit Europe. Australia is very isolated and it's very expensive to get anywhere and takes a very long time, apart from the Pacific islands
Also, I have witnessed terrible racism in both Australia and Britain and it's a worldwide problem so I wouldn't let that factor influence your decision. Yes, Australia has better beaches but my husband and I thought that we could build a life based on great scenery and access to beaches but in fact what we have discovered is that it's people and culture that are important and in my mind, the UK wins hands down on that front.
People in the UK are more reserved but once you connect with people they are very friendly and welcoming and it is likely that you would make real friends. I found the people in Australia to be initially more friendly up front but it never really progresses into proper friendship and stays at a very superficial level. Its a bit of a generalisation I know but on the whole I found them to be very competitive and the constant one-upmanship can be difficult to deal with.
Yes Britian has more rain and the weather isn't as good as Australia but Australia is fast running out of water and many people have to live with rigid water restrictions. Melbourne has not had enough rain in years and their reserves are extremely low. If they don't have a wet winter this year they are going to be in trouble next year.
Career wise I would say the opportunities in the UK would be better as well. There are so many large global companies and also homegrown ones.
Go the UK - it has definitely got its problems but it's so alive and also has so much to offer. |
