English! lol :)
You say:
'I am English'
and 'I am from England'

But then you can also say you're British.
If you're from Wales, you are Welsh.
And if you're from Scotland, you're Scottish.
If you're from Northern Ireland, then you are Northern Irish.
But if you are from any other part of Ireland, then you aren't British, or English, you're Irish.

English. British is correct as well, but less specific. England is a country on the island of Great Britain; someone from England is English and someone from Great Britain is British. So if you are English, you're also British, but if you're British, you're not necessarily English!

apollonius
The equivalent of 'American' would be 'English'
However the equivalent of 'an American' would I guess be 'an Englishman/Englishwoman'.
