are wheather is famous for being wet and horrible but due to global warming we get ridiculously hot days so prepare for any wheather and food really depends on what part you go to and culture any where near a big city is starting to become quite violent and thug based but please dont let this put you off if you go to the right places you can have a great time

hiya!!! i live in the north o scotland in a bonny wee toon in the highlands, no far fae inverness.
of late we have had pretty mixed up weather!!! altho we have had lots of rain, the temp still be quite high. we do have to odd blast from the sun and when we do it is really quite hot.
culture....well wot can i tell u. most of us scots are really laid back people with a fine sense of humour. we like to live life to the full and be of help as and when. i myself treat my fellow humans the way i expect to be treated myself....and that is with respect.
as for foods, a well known scottish dish is HAGGIS. so what is haggis?????....well alot of non-scottish folk seem to think a haggis is a small animal native to Scotland. Well when I say animal, actually it's a bird with vestigial wings - like the ostrich. not true!!!!! Haggis is Scotland’s best-known regional dish. It is made from lamb’s offal (lungs, liver and heart) mixed with suet, onions, herbs and spices, all packed into a skin, traditionally made of a sheep’s stomach. Traditionally served on Burns' Night, the haggis is often accompanied by mashed potatoes and mashed turnips.

here is a wee poem about a scottish haggis - hope u like it!!!

The haggis season has begun
All over Scotland every gun
Is taken down with loving care
Though some prefer the haggis snare
For haggis are a wily lot
That's why they are so seldom shot
"We're the haggis, aye, hooray;
We'll live until next Hogmanay"

Its flying upside down and low
The guns all fire, but they're too slow
And though it's rather old and fat
It's awfully hard to hit like that
And as it flies off in the mist
Great hairy clansmen shake their fists
And scream their curses to the crags
And stamp on empty haggis bags
And so the haggis gets away
To live until next Hogmanay

"We're the haggis, aye, hooray;
We'll live until next Hogmanay"

anyway....thats all i can think of writin at moment.........hope u enjoy ur stay wen u come over 2 the uk and if u need any more info or u visit the highlands, get in touch and we can perhaps meet up and i show u the sights.............minus the haggis hunt, lol!!!

take care. x

You've had some great answers already. Can I just add one point please....don't think that the UK is a tiny little dot that you can explore in a day. It's bigger than you think. Allow yourself 2-3 weeks minimum if you can. Give yourself a good week to tour Scotland, it's so beautiful. You'll need a couple of weeks to tour England and Wales - and you still won't see everything. Are you also hoping to get to Ireland? Youll need more time for that too!

The weather is a load of crap, so forget that. The traditional culture food dish is fish and chips, but I prefer West Indian food and occasionally Chinese or Indian, but there is a wide choice of food generally.

Being where we are the weather can be upredictable but it wont spoil your visit. Be prepared for rain but you could be lucky and have a couple of weeks of warm sunny weather. Britain as a whole is generally a great place to visit but the best advice i can give is to give the big cities a miss especially London. If you wanted to see the real USA you wouldnt stay in Washington DC for your vacation would you?
Get out to the countryside and the coast and meet the people. Once people hear your accent they will want to know all about you and where you come from and will probobly end up buying your drinks all night. Research some of the following places on the internet before you make your trip so that you can get the most out of your visit.
The peak district, The lake district, Warwick Castle, St Ives in Cornwall. The Cotswolds, Snowdonia national park. The scottish highlands and Edinburgh ( despite what i said about cities ). Blackpool ( its tacky i know but it really is Britain at its best and worst) Have a great trip.

hello usa you will find that the foods are almost the same,, one thing you may not have treid is custard,,,,,on fruit filled pies or our british triffle,,,,,,,our chocolate is the best ,, said my utah friend,,,,,we pretty well do things the same but drive on the other side of the road,, we have differrent names for the same things ie footpath = sidewalk ,emergancy brake=handbrake hey any way deepending what part of uk you are in, we have beuatiful country side, brilliant beaches we have forests and are we stooped in history ghost stories haunted places,if you are in London we have the changing of the queens guards a real spectact thing to see we have cool art gallaries and hundreds of places for picnics.. i could go on more and more and more but wait till you are hear then you will know for yourselve happy visits i am from the south west of uk (devon) see you :)

The Mc Donalds burgers are only half as big as in the US and the coffee isn't good but getting better. The weather is varied, not boringly the same all the time. People are reserved but helpful if you need them. In the big towns eye contact is avoided whilst in small towns and the country you say good day etc. when passing a stranger. Be aware of the places not to go, as in the US. Generally It's the safest and nicest place in the world with lots of history and sites. Enjoy. DB

Depends on how old you are, if you prefer countryside there is a lot of it, if you prefer clubbing, shopping etc, then London is definately the place to be.

England tends to be a lot more expensive than the US (i know from experience) so bring a lot of money!!

Food is quite different, yet also the same... depends what foods you really like.

The weather... its is very often cold and rainy, tho it can be sunny and warm in the summer!!

if you have any more specific questions... let me know!!!

Animemadness
well oftern wet and cold bring a couple of warm things with you. People don't really have the polite culture as much as you think we will anymore. They are alot more selfish watch out for chavs (trouble making youths) We have lovly cooked breakfast which is toast, eggs, baked beans, bacon and roast dinners pork or chicken with yorkshire puddings, gravy ,peas potatoes. If you go to a restrant you will see all those on the menu they serve tea in most places! Look both ways when you cross the road cos we drive of the wrong side hehe!

If you are thinking of places then i guess london is ok but you can get loads of old castles and villages up in lincolnshire and its alot cheaper than london also loads of nighclubs in the city lincoln/shefield/nottighman has great night life.

asdajohnlover
The weather is very changable so bring both umbrella & suncream, shorts & coats.

The people in the North of England are very friendly, whereas people in the South are more reserved. Scottish people talk fast & you may need to listen more carefully to understand their accent.

Typical English food would be some kind of meat, potatoes & vegetables. Fish & chips is the traditional dish, either sitting down in a restaurant or as a take-away eaten walking down the street. But nowadays we also eat various foods from different cultures including Italian, Indian & Chinese. We have lots of McDonalds & Pizza Huts which have good quality food. The little local homecooked cafes tend to be more expensive in price.

The seasides are lovely places to visit because of the scenery in the countryside, but some of these tourist spots tend to get a bit crowded on the weekends.

Sightseeing can be good in large cities but be prepared for car-parking charges & entrance fees to attractions.

A good place for a day out is the theme park called Alton Towers in Staffordshire in the Midlands, but that can cost around £100 for a family of four. But once you get in, the rides are included in the cost. Best to take a packed lunch if you want to cut down on food & drinks cost.

I hope you have a nice time when you get here.

How long have you got?
UK is very varied.
Major cities like London, Newcastle and Edinburgh are lively, lots of night life and things to do during the day. Not cheap though. If you come at the beginning of August you can enjoy the Edinburgh Festival.
Visit Plymouth in Devon, very historic, where the Pilgrim Fathers finally set sail for the Americas. (They originally set sail from London but the ship needed repairs. They pulled in to Plymouth to do these.) It is also easy to visit the lovely beaches of Cornwall and the moors from there too.
Will you want to visit Stratford, home of William Shakespear? I went once and found it a bit dull.
Brighton on the South East coast is worth a mention too. Known as London on Sea.
The weather is hit and miss. Generally never too hot or too cold. The further West you go the wetter it is.
Hope you have a fantastic time when you get here.

Weather is OK - just bring the right things to wear.
The food the young ones eat is rather basic and boring (fast
food) but you can get anything you want - try what the locals eat.
English countryside is very nice, avoid London if you can.

Weather? Generally not good. Usually cold and grey. And that's summer.

Culture? Hmm. Good question. A bad mixture of feral street kids (chavs) and immigrants.

Food? Indian, Chinese, Pizza, Chip shops, mainly.

Enjoy!
