If you had one night in London, which hotel would you stay in? |
My husband and I will spend the last night of our holiday (9th August) in London, before flying back to Zambia. I'd like us to stay in a really cool, hotel with a great bar, great atmosphere and big on style with all mod cons. The kind of place where we go 'wow!' when we walk in the foyer and 'wow!' again when we enter our room! Any suggestions? |

If moneys no object; The Savoy, it over looks the river for wonderful night and day views. The bar and grill are fantastic. There are good restaurants near by, all cuisines and prices. Good theatres nearby.
I've had to visit the hotel in my job as a make up and hair artist several times and have never been dissappointed with the interiors of the rooms. The Adelphi also off the Strand is more tucked away. Claridges is nice, as is the Metro on Park Lane, but in most of the hotels on Park Lane you can hear whats going on in the room next door!Browns has a wonderful smart but cosy feel if you want to be in Mayfair, but for me for veiws and location the Savoy wins hands down. |

To get the best out of London you wont want to spend much time in your hotel and to be honest unless you pay a fortune you will not get much wow factor anywhere.
My humble reccomendation would be the Cumberland at Marble Arch. This used to be a typical tourist transit hotel and was full of backpacking american students on the "European tour" sitting in large flocks on their rucksacks in the lobby.
Its had a massive makeover now and boasts a very trendy lobby area with original scultures and artwork, fast check in from beautiful people, and rooms which are small but very trendy in the conran style with large plasma T.V's and comfortable beds.
Downstairs you have a Rhodes (Celebrity T.V Chef)restauarant and a nice moody bar, plus a brighter lounge bar with cocktail waitress service.
Location wise you are right opposite Marble Arch and Hyde Park, 5 minutes in a cab from Buckingham Palace, and five mins from Mayfair.
Ten mins will get you to Piccadilly Circus, Fifteen to Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and Leicester Square.
And you are actually on Oxford Street. |

If I had to stay in central London it would beThe Dorchester on Park Land without a doubt.
If just the London area, it would be the Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot which has one of the best Spas in the UK. |

I could tell you a few that I wouldn't. I said wow when I saw our room at the county hall hotel, but the view was over the back courtyard and we were kept awake all night by people wheeling trollies around. I think it was the laundry. There quite a few with no air conditioning, I'd really check for that first, especially in August. Maybe the Park Lane Hilton. |

I agree with Moosey. The Sanderson and St Martins Lane are both cool, modern, designer hotels. Add to that list the Schrager (same chain as the two above) or The Hempel. Most London hotels are chintzy Victoriana style places. These five are not.
The hotel at Liverpool Street Station is also kinda cool. For a great combo of old and new try Landmark Hotel at Marylebone Street Station - excellent restaurant and the winter garden is divine. |
