It would take me a whole day to tell you all that there is to see in Liverpool. I've been four times in the past 15 months and I still have a list of places to visit or revisit.

If you like the Beatles, there are many places connected with them, and they are really interesting. There is a great museum, an art gallery, two cathedrals, lots of pubs, great shops, great theatres. The greatest asset which Liverpool has is its people. Just sitting in a pub or cafe and having complete strangers striking up a conversation and joking with me is priceless.

Don't listen to anyone who makes stupid jokes about crime. I'm not saying that there is no crime in Liverpool because it's a city and has its share of crime, but it's certainly no worse than anywhere else from that point of view. I've always felt safe in Liverpool, even at night.

It depends on what you saw last time and how old you are.

If for instance you like shopping and plan on visiting Liverpool ONE make sure you are there around 5.00pm when the sun starts to set. Climb to the top of the Italian style steps for a breathtaking view of the Liver birds, Mersey, Wirral and Welsh hills beyond. It's jaw-dropping and looks like a film set.

A walk around the Anglican cathedral area is well worth doing. The largest collection od Georgian terraces outside Bath and so many quirks to the buildings and (people!) it is something a bit more out of the ordinary.

All the museums are fab and worth a look, avoid at weekends if poss.

If its a nice day buy some sandwiches and eat them in the courtyard of Bluecoat chambers..an oasis in the middle of the city centre.

Pubs? Bold street leece street wood street are my type but you may prefer something more mainstream. The cavern quarter has a good atmos.

I feel like I'm droning on so I'll shut up now :-)

James M- I am seriosly going to have a word with the Town Hall in making you an honoury Scouser...thankyou!!!! :-)

DAVES MUM- I'VE LIVED THERE FOR 35 YEARS....MAYBE ITS THE PEOPLE YOU KNOW.

Once again for Dave's Mum (yea you live in Liverpool, either that or you've never been out of your street) and Alan who swallows myths without thought.

Liverpool’s comes in at 132.56 Lower than Lincoln, Manchester, Cardiff Norwich, and the dreaming spires of Oxford.

As for the question, go to the art installation in moorfields 'Turning the place upside down' and take your camera!

Liverpool is well worth a trip either for a day or a weekend.

There is plenty to see and do. The maritime museum is excellent and free and has loads to see. Other have covered shopping etc.

A trip up Liverpool Anglican Cathedral tower is well worth it as you get a great view out over the city.

Maybe take a trip on the famous Mersey Ferry.

If football is your thing most days you can have a tour around Anfield/Goodison Park – though I think it is pricey!

I don't know were dave's mum lives in Liverpool but like any major city you get rough places. I've never been to the stanley Dock Market but from what I see of that area which actually has great potential I would give it a miss. Lived in Liverpool for over 60 years

You went and you want to go back?!
Turn left out the station, sharp left again and get back on the train!

Lots of houses boarded up and the window cleaners going around with orbital sanders.
macdonalds going round with vans picking up all the dead dogs and cats from the Toxteth streets.
Arms exhibitions ( best deals in europe for handguns ) on most streets.
cocaine and heroin sampling ( they even sell cocaine from icecream vans )
Dole ques that can even be seen from space!!!
Cars with bricks for wheels.
Enjoy your trip to Liverpool, they will be waiting for you this time.

Dave's Mum
Shopping -

Go to Stanley Dock market early on a Sunday.
Everything that has been stolen througout the week will be for sale from the back of cars and vans as you walk towards the market.

Or - go to the shopping centre and try on a few things. Write down a list of items range names that you like along with the shop names and then just go to one of the local bars.
The shoplifters will take your list and come back with your goods for a great knock-down price in the time it takes you to have a drink.

Edit
For James M

You may have been to Liverpool 4 times but I have lived there for 45 years and if you feel it's compleatly safe to walk around at night then you are either very brave or very stupid. Crime in Liverpool is not the same as anywhere else. In Liverpool even 10 year old kids are extorting money to 'mind your car' and just about everyone you meet is on the take.

Edit2
for all the people marking me down.

Does any one of you deny that on the road to stanley market on a sunday morning, you will encounter people selling knock off goods.

Does any one of you deny that you can place steal to order items from the shoplifters in the pubs around the center.

Does any one of you deny that children offer to mind your car with the deliberate implication that it will be stolan or burned out if you do not pay up.

Does any one of you deny that just about everything in Liverpool can be obtained at a discount by either knowing or else bribing the right people.
