You'll love it and I am sure you will be made very welcome (just stay away from Newsastle-upon-Tyne!! - only joking!). No, the British people are very hospitable, in general. Whereabouts are you moving to? Most Americans tend to think that the only place in Britain is London (much as most Bristish people think that America starts and ends with New York, I suppose!).

Are you moving here permanently? Be sure to travel around our beautiful island. I'm sure that you will find petrol prices way too expensive and rail fares extortionate. I have lived in Britain for all of my 33 years (I am British) and I have not even scratched the surface of Britain. There are so many beautiful places and great people who inhabit our tiny island.

Enjoy yourself. Have a great time (I'm sure you will) and remember to look me up!!

I think you will find living in England is the same as living anywhere else, and we don't hate Americans we may dislike some of your Government's foreign policies and I'm sure when you get here you will dislike some of our Governments policies.

Hi,
i do not know what you have heard about us English,
but we do not all sit around drinking tea.
Not all english hate Americans, i have a lots of relations who are American.
Just be yourself and you will be fine.
And good luck with your move, you might find it takes a while to adjust.

First good for you! It's very courageous for someone to move to a different country. We need more Americans like you.

The British don't hate Americans. They (and most all other nationalities) hate loud, obnoxious, cocky Americans who think that only the USA matters in the world and are closed minded to other ways of thinking and other cultures.

Be gracious and curious of other cultures, don't directly criticize and realize that the world is a massive place and America has a small part in it.

Most British no longer take a regular afternoon tea, especially the younger generations.

Yeah, it'll be scary, but only because you will be challenging your way of thinking and experiencing new things.

Well, said Alberto
Just be yourself. Don't worry about the English hating Americans because they don't; its America's actions rather than the ordinary people who are the problem.

k rose. I live in London, and came from Taz originally.
i have family over here, but can really know how you are feeling. Its exciting, scary, fun, everything at once.
i don't now how much i can answer her.. its a huge question and your bound to have lots of individual questions.
anyway
1. sort out your accommodation before you leave. it takes ages to get things moving and hotels and boarding houses are expensive here
2. after a couple of weeks you are going to be bloody homesick. bring some personal stuff from family cuddly toys you can wrap up in a duvet with are good
3. get someone to promise to send you treats that you can only get at home. your bound to find that after a few weeks you are going to really crave something that you cant get here.. pretzels or some sort of candy.
4. you have to have a job to come to
5. remember everything in the UK is so much more expensive than at home, especially in London.
6. when you get here take time out to treat yourself and go see Stonehenge or the British museum. it sounds obvious, but when you get here, you can really get swamped with day-to-day life, work, shopping, cleaning, that all you plans get forgotten
7. break up with your bf, if you have one. long distance stuff just doesn't work, and it will only cause hurt later (and there are some great looking Brit guys here :-) lol

you can contact me if you like, if you want any specific questions answered

First of all let me say Welcome! We dont hate Americans, far from it. Behave as you would at home, you will find us a friendly lot (despite what you may have heard). You will find good and bad here just like anywhere else in the world. Where exactly are you moving to?

Awww don't be scared! Yeah, true alot of people don't like Americans for whatever reason, but I think people will be nothing if not civil towards you and you should make lots of friends here. I don't think you have anything to be scared of! People will acknowledge the fact that you aren't from this country and will be nice, lol. Where abouts are u moving to?
