Good advice from SJM .If your used to living in fairly rough, multi-racial hell holes you'll be fine. Take cabs everywhere get some mace and practice unlocking a front door really quick. If you go a few miles east, south or west things aren't nearly as bad

Caroline N
My friend lives there. I think its quite rough!

Not nice. If there is anyway you could stay elsewhere then please do. Good luck xxx

There are some worse areas in London but it isn't one that I'd particularly want to live in, let's say that. If it's only temporary it won't be the end of the world. I'd just recommend that you try not to walk around on your own after dark, don't use devices such as your mobile phone or ipod out in public (it will write a sign saying 'mug me' across your forehead) and walk 'confidently', if you know what I mean. Also don't walk slowly - you can always tell someone who isn't from London (and therefore a much better person to mug..) as they dawdle along the pavement.

I don´t like Streatham at all.
All you can find in the high street is a woolworts, a lidl, a peackock and a dozen of crap restaurants. Too much traffic. Good transport (buses) to/from Brixton.

Tbh, its sh*t.

streatham aint too bad, some good ppl some bad!

Sláinte from Mel 1 xx
I had to stay there once for a few months while waiting for my flat and it was awful. I truly did not feel safe and felt a very bad vibe in that area. The main road the traffic does not stop and alot of dodgy people about. There are some beautiful houses off the main road and some lovely areas but that main road I hated walking up there as felt very anxious and never feel like that in other parts of London. Just be careful and don't walk alone late. Wish you the best. I was in the police station one day looking for advice and this man was aggressive and abusive towards me. Awful memories. But do try out the fantastic vegetarian homecooked meals in the little restaurant directly across from the police station, do the best homecooked apple crumble. There are alot of crack houses in that area so alot of crazy people, really shocked me.
