In the US - some people don't know or follow this ettiquette. Same as in England. You hope people stay to the right & pass on the left, but sometimes you get stuck behind people no matter what side of the ocean you are on!
(Most escalators are side by side left going up and right going down)
It doesn't differ in the UK like the driving :) |

That is an interesting question, we stand on the right and walk on the left, so I guess not, nice idea though, I like it. |

well at London underground everyone stands on the right, and then the people that are used to the morning and afternoon rushes in such station run up and down on the left you usually hear 'excusme' everytime that you go. But i noticed they do the same in Russia and France. In a supermarket or something, vyou stand whatever side you like. |

Don't tell my boss I'm on here

If you wish to stand you stand on the right, so that if anyone is in a hurry they can walk on the left.
The only place where I see signs saying this is on the London underground (They say Keep to the Right) |

Theoretically, the mirroring road rule may work on this as well. However, there's also the falsity in that theory due to English also being majority right handed, same as the US. So perhaps it is the right-handed property of Americans that causes us to stay on the right side, and being thusly so, would mean that the primarily right-handed culture of England would follow the same common rules. |

When you get there, just follow the crowd. If you ask, they're going to look at you funny. Just follow everyone and PRETEND you know. |

There's no such thing in the UK. Your on a escalator not stairs. It's a moving plaform you stand on a wait until you are at the bottom and step off no matter how fast or slow it goes.
Most people stand in the middle and hold on to both sides for security so you cannot walk past them.
Also if you play on going up the down escalator and vise versa you will be caught by security and told off.
If you really want to get you the next floor quicker find the stairs and just use them instead.
Hope I helped! |

it's probably same here but it's one of those rules most people ignore and just run up them any old who. Sometimes people go up the down escalator!! |

In England, if you are caught walking on the wrong side of the escalator, you can be literally tossed off it. One guy and his dog, were on the wrong side of the escalator, and it offended some people. Well, they were tossed off the escalator. Sadly, they were found in a "poodle" of blood. .... |
