It's Random numbers as they also have a 700 bus.

LOL
London's bus network is one of the largest and most comprehensive urban transport systems in the world. Every weekday over 6,800 scheduled buses carry around six million passengers on over 700 different routes.

no idea, but who actually cares but i do know motorways are numbered in order!

Michael E
There's quite a history to these numbers, take a look at the TFL website.

bam P
they are just random routes the route masters (that have now been taken of the roads) went all around london they all had random numbers

Larry R
never really thought about it.

I think they're sequential, check out TFL's website for more details.

I understand you curiosity! Ignore these people who don't have anything better to do than sit on "answers" all and give nonsense replies to questions.

I remember wondering the same thing myself when i first got here. Still, i never really bothered to find out so i'll keep checking back on your question to see if somebody knows!

However, i do recall being quite excited when i found the Number 1 bus! (small things, hey?)
