YES YES YES Do it, there's only one way this country is going and that is down hill, you will have a better quality of life somewhere else, this country needs a major kick up the butt and unfortunately i don't think it's going to happen in our lifetime and to be honest what hope have our kids got!!

Hell, yes I'd go! You could always rent out your house so you've got somewhere to come back to...

Cliveus
Either there or Canada!

Get gone my friend. Just wish I could afford!

You don't really state in which ways the U.K. 'stinks' or is 'getting worse'. You might find that whatever it is that distresses you about the U.K. is also present in Australia.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes . . . and Yes!

Go on, shake everything up and learn to appreciate life afresh. And Australia is a great choice.

I have almost all that you say, except the house is a 3 bed and I really wish that I were younger as we would sell up and emigrate if we could. I am almost 62 and unfortunately would find it very difficult to find a job anywhere but where I am My personal retirement plan which I started in the early 80s is not worth a damn and would not support us, so I cant retire and emigrate.

I would go - i visited for 6 months and its an amazing country.

Can you afford to keep house here and rent it out otherwise you will have nothing left when you come back if it does not work out. Lots of my friends have emigrated and all love it as long as you can stand being apart from family and friends However we all use skype which is great

Lots of jobs but cost of living is lower so earnings lower.

Go go go

Actually, Australia is just as bad as the UK. Sydney and Melbourne are just as bad as London in the fact that no-one speaks English, there are large ghetto-like slums, there is a huge amount of random violence, etc. If you were to live outside of one of these two cities, then it's essentially a desert - the nearest shop can be 300km away. But, the main thing that would put me off is that there is a severe drought, so much so that they have figured out a way to recycle sewerage and within five years you could be drinking your own urine.

I'd move to New Zealand though.

Since you say you have a job offer, what you could do is just go for a couple of years, just to see what it's like. Because property is so much more expensive in the UK, I'd keep the house here but let it, and you'll find that the rental income will more than cover the cost of renting a home there, plus give you a bit of extra money in the bank.

I should be doing something else

Yes! Go for it, if you don't like it you can always come home easily enough, it's not as if you can come back if you choose to.

Live life and good luck =]

yes, only thing is the family you leave behind, its going from bad to worse here.

sarch_uk
Yes...go for it.

It's only because we were just too old when we started to think about going to New Zealand that we didn't make it. Go, and maybe have the time of your lives, or stay and forever be saying "what if...."

Let's face it, no matter what happens at the next election, this country is now so far down the pan that it would take an absolute miracle for things to improve...

hell yes.

there is a programme on UK tv in the morning about people up and moving to Australia and it seems great!

RP
Yes, yes, yes.

I've been trying to find a way to go, but I don't have any capital (spent it setting up a business which is only just finding it's customers in a specialist field), our experience is in areas that is not in short supply and therefore not sought after, and although I have good qualifications, they're not what Australia are looking for.

If you don't go you will definitely regret it. If you do go, you only might regret it.

My parents had the chance to move to Canada shortly before I was born but didn't go because my mother didn't want to leave my Gran behind. Not long after, my father's business went bust and they lost everything. Now they can't go and they regret it every single day.

If you are young and adaptable then Australia is the place for you, This country is going to the dogs!!! What have you got to lose rent your house here for a few months until you see how you like the Aussies It you are prepared to work hard and fit in and not be a whinging Pom then its a great life. Do check on Healthcare Pensions and stuff like that though. Good on You mate

Hell man I was just chatting with my husband abo9ut that exact thing except we cant go to Australia cos my husband isnt a skilled worker...shame...man i wish I lived somewhere else!

Yes, We want to go very much but can't leave behind an ageing relative who wouldn't be able to go with us. Instead we visit as often as we can for a month at a time.

I would go out there with the family for at least a month and see what you think of it before burning your bridges here. It helps if you know people out there already but definitely not essential. The Ozzie's are so friendly and down to earth and OZ is the most amazing place. We love the UK but feel we are losing control of our lives here.
