Different parts of Glasgow come under different regions.

Greater Glasgow
Strathclyde
Renfrewshire
North Lanarkshire
South Lanarkshire

Glasgow is in Strathclyde so named because of the River Clyde running through it.
Hope this helps!

Strathclyde.

To the best of my knowledge it actually straddles two counties, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire. Possibly these counties have been redrawn?

Strathclyde

The region is Strathclyde, though I am not so sure if Glasgow is technically part of that. I think it could have its own adminstration as just the City of Glasgow, a bit like Edinburgh does (even though Edinburgh is technically in Midlothian region).

Jim
Up until 1996 Glasgow was in Strathclyde. Now it's a Unitary Authority.

The counties of Scotland were local government subdivisions of Scotland until 1975. Glasgow was in Lanarkshire county before 1975.

Glasgow City is what I put as the county never had any problem with that.

Westminster enforced county boundary changes are your enemy here. Most people refuse to use anything other than the "traditional" historical county of Lanarkshire, which disppeared off the map in about 1975 to be replaced by the rather generic Strathclyde, a name that has never really been accepted by the public at large in the same way that residents of Southport refuse to accept they are part of Merseyside. A lot of the old Scottish counties have since made comebacks, and I believe most of Glasgow is now back where it belongs - Lanarkshire.
