yes, i was in London for a week with about 350$ and it was enough for food (true i ate mainly at subway an pizza hut) , sites, some shopping and even a play. but, i did buy i travel card in advance for zones 1-2, so it didn't cover the tubes, i advise you to do the same since a 7 day travel card costs only (about) 23 pounds.
also when you buy a travel card at an agency you get coupons for sites (if i remember correctly it was for saint Paul's cathedral, the zoo and the London eye). also look for deals, at the London eye you can buy a ticket for both the London eye and madam Tussuad's with a discount (about 3 pounds less).

One GB pound is pretty much equal to 2 US dollars so you'll have about $80 / £40 a day. If it's just for food and souvenirs you should be OK but if you have to pay entrance fees, travel on buses and the underground (tube) then it's going to be tight.

If you're buying food from restaurants than it won't be enough. A basic meal in a basic restaurant will cost at least $20, more like $40 and if you went to anywhere other than a basic restaurant it could easily cost you $100. However, if you're going to eat in cafes and take aways then you'll get by.

It's not a lot but if you're careful with your spending you should be OK.

Nowhere near enough

If you want to eat fish and chips, and buy yourself one small british flag, it might be just enough.

If going to London and you hotel is paid for I would take along with as spending for 7 days 600pounds + London is an expensive city a day travel card alone cost 6pounds, then they are all the museums and dinning in London can be expensive.

Try Weatherspoons its a chain of Pubs in England that have good food and beer at cheap prices. The other month me and my friend had a curry and a pint for 5 pounds in the center of Lester square

I would say no unless your going to use a credit card as back up. I suggest bringing more money just to be on the safe side.

Depends on if you wanna eat or not!
That's like having $280 for a week in the US.

It's about £287, which is about £41 a day. You might just (barely) get by on that with cash, but you won't be buying anything besides the bare essentials.

Really the best comparison is 'can you live in NY on 41 *dollars* a day?" Yea, if you eat McDonalds and buy a few groceries. Generally things in the UK are the same in £ and they in $ in the US (especially for low cost things, i.e. things < £10 each). $1 coke = £1 coke, $4 McD=£4 McDs, etc.

If you did one sit down restaurant and one taxi per day in London, you'd probably go through £41. If you bought a 7 day travel card (hint: you should) and ate McDonalds, you might have a few pounds to spare. If you go out to a pub and drink some beer, you might eat up your daily allowance pretty easily. If you took a train to Cambridge or Oxford, you'd eat about £15-20 of your daily allowance.

You can get by, but you aren't going to be doing very much. If you have a credit card, I'd take that in case you see something you really want to buy or do.
