'Er indoors!!

It's disgusting, and I was shocked to be charged the same when I visited Kendall in the Lake District, last year. My Husband had gone off to park the car, and I was bursting, so I ran to find a toilet, only to find a miserable security guard unwilling to let me pass the barriers without first paying 30p. I informed him that my husband would be along shortly with some money, but he still wouldn't open the barriers. By this time I was so desperate, and shot through the barrier, when it opened to let a woman out. I was chased into the toilet by the disgruntled security guard, and had to inform him, that he would be cleaning up a puddle if he didn't let me use the toilet NOW!!!!
On returning to the outside of the toilets, my husband was waiting for me, and so was the security guard. I picked out 30p in pennies, from my husbands hand, and THREW it at the miserable old ba$tard. We left him scurrying around the floor for the scattered coppers, and we vowed we would NEVER visit Kendal again.
My Husband actually cleans the public toilets in Polperro, Looe, and various tourist area's around N.E. Cornwall, and there is NO charge in any of the public toilets in the area he works. I just don't know how these Councils can justify chargeing 30p for pursueing an act of nature, and if I come across another council chargeing the same, I'm afraid I am the type of person who will make a spectacle of myself to make a point. Not everyone has 30p on them, when they need it, and in future, I will pee on the spot, and plead poverty. It really is OUTRAGEOUS, especially as I know toilet cleaners are on £6-50 an hour!!!!! |

Me too, I just get on a train which doesn't leave for the next 15 minutes and us the train toilet, then get off before the train leaves.

if they are asking for 6 shillings- then as it is an obsolete currency then you can't pay it so it must be free! |

Remember how long ago that is was actually 1d to 'spend a penny'? At that time a wage of £1000 per year was good money, so in comparison I suspect that 30p now is quite cheap. |

I remember when it was a real old penny, but my pocket money was only sixpence per week, so I could not afford it.
My friend and I used to go down the pub every saturday. We used to take a ten bob note (50p today), and get hammered.
Inflation is not good. |

It was £1.00 in Harrods 20 years ago. spending a penny is a whole new ballgame nowadays |

I should be doing something else
|
I don't mind paying 30p as the pay toilets are usually reasonably clean and have toilet roll which is more than can sometimes be said for the free ones. Not a huge fan of the automatic doors though, wouldn't fancy it opening before I was ready to leave! |

I reckon it depends on what service you receive for this. If toilets are kept clean, fresh and graffiti free in a busy station with say an attendant employed then I don't think it is unreasonable. |

It does seem a lot I know, but the cost of cleaning up the mess, litter left by people and repairs due to vandalism, is enormous; the 30p charge covers the costs only; no profit is made. |

What I normally do is duck under the barriers! or some trains have toilets on them, or you could go to a restaurant and ask to use their toilet. If they say no, then order a glass of water to go! |

I am afraid that's what they ask for at Stations and Airports..some ask less but perhaps this place is more hygienic and gets cleand more often...xxx |

Outrageous. I have never paid for access to a toilet in my life.... |

Shillings were pre 1971, so you are either living in a time warp or you are older. If you are older then you may have a weak bladder. If this is the case then 30p, though expensive, might be necessary for your peace of mind. If you are truly living a life 37 years behind the rest of us then cold comfort should tell you that the "old" coinage will no longer fit the slots on the doors and that you may end up paying a dry cleaning bill at 2008 prices! |
