Is Alton Towers a good place to go with kids of 9,12,15?

We are planning to stay nearby this summer and I can get tickets with my clubcard deals.
The last time we went was 6 years ago and we didn't really have a good day as it was really wet and the queue's were terrible.

Also I believe they now have a waterpark.
What are your thoughts.

We are in Scotland so we are going at the begining of our holidays before the English schools break up

Please don't just say rubbish or great

All my kids (and us) love thrill ridesthe youngest one is small for her age and has height restriction issues! but that's all that holds her back.
Thay have been to Blackpool Pleasure Beach and loved it.

alton towers is great for teenage kids. get fast track tickets for the big rides as you cut queue times. Problem going in the summer, is school trips go there towards the end of term times as their final school trip so you think its going to be quiet because the kids havent broken up but...when you get there there are coach loads of kids!! Goes quiet after 2.30pm when they have gone home though, thats the time to go on the big rides. Splash landings hotel has great water complex but the hotel is not so great. wouldnt recommend you stay there. Its expensive, the rooms are tiny and the food and service is poor, however if you stay in either of the two alton towers hotels you get early admittance to the park before the general public get let in.

We love Alton Towers and your kids are great ages to go. Old enough to queue a bit, strong enough to last the day etc. Scottish schools break up before English schools do. If you can go midweek when english kids at school you will have a much better day. We went last year on an inset day (Thursday about two weeks before summer holiday in England) We hardly queued at all.

Cant make any guarantees to you about weather, you need to be prepared for anything!! Lightweight kagools and fleeces can go into a rucksack, and your guys are big enough to carry their own.

Some of the newer rides are awesome!

Hi we are also in scotland motherwell been there and done it will not go back we went thinking it would be quiet as our child is in a wheelchair but it was mobbed mobbed mobbed had to queue for absolutelly everything and i would dread going there on a holiday / school break

Yes, probably. Food quite pricey, queue always long for the best rides.... but they add new rides every year. And if your kids are ones for thrills and spills, it will be a great day out.

Take a packed lunch and loads of drink.... but you'll be left holding the bags then when they are running off having fun.

There are some lovely grounds too and a lovely stately home if thrills and spills aren't your thing....
Enjoy!

i think its a good idea, because specially for the 15 year old means you may not have to spend the day fighting. however if there are two adults it may be easier because 9 year old will want to go on different things to others, or similar
not sure bout kids but you get the idea
there will always be queues though im afraid

Jo.
to be honest with you the ques are still terrible but you can get fast track tickets now see there site for details on prices and the splash landings hotel.

I do think alton towers would be a good idea. Obviously the qweather has nothing to do with the park itself, so i'll put that aside, that's just up to you to plan a good day to go.. And the queues are slightly long and always will be, but if you're patient i suppose you just have to wait. As for the kids, if there's two adults accompanying 3 kids, then the younger child will most likely stay with you, and the 12 and 15 year olds can go on most of the rides. But alton towers does have a huge amount of rides, and has changed from 6 years ago, and i think that it should be fun for you and the kids.
