Is Birmingham really crap? |
I hate shopping, does Birmingham hold anything else for me or is it just one of those cities you pass through on the way to somewhere more interesting? |

No Birmingham's not crap. I lived in Birmingham for a very long time, and believe me, It's a MUCH nicer City than London. The people are great, and far more friendly than Londoner's, who are ignorant, and miserable. Birmingham has a great shopping centre, and also smaller shopping centre's, like Solihull, which has some more unusual shops.
I get so angry at the bad press Birmingham gets, as it has some wonderful area's, and not all BAD area's. |

Are you on about Birmingham in the UK??????
Its a great city with one of the best shopping centres in the country and some great canal side pubs and restuarants. There's the balti run, great parks and out door places to visit. I do not live in Birmingham, but I prefer it to Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Nothingham. |

Well, I actually live in Xylofagou, Cyprus now, but Birmingham is my home town, and i have to say, I'm still very proud of it. Theres a great shopping centre, The thinktank, Sealife Centre, and then theres the bars and restaurants around the canal basin.
there are some great places to visit in Brum, so don't just dismiss it....give it a try!! |

There are museums, cathedrals, parks and good restaurants. It's a very cosmopolitan, modern city. |

I am not a Brummie born and bred but I have lived not too far away for many years and take it from me - it is most definitely not "crap." It has something for every one, some of which have already been mentioned in other answers. Birmingham has the best concert hall in Europe, a brilliant symphony orchestra and ballet company. The Symphony Hall and neighbouring National Indoor Arena host concerts by top rock and pop stars as well as major sporting events (indoor athletics, tennis, badminton, etc) Birmingham has top class restaurants, great pubs, clubs and bars and the shopping possibilities are endless from major department stores to little family run shops selling ethnic wear and materials. You can eat food from pretty well every country in the world, including Afro-Caribbean, Turkish, Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Italian, Thai, French, etc., etc., etc. There are millions of trees in Birminham. There are more miles of navigable canals than there are in Venice, there are lots of parks, open spaces and nature reserves. Round the edge there is Sutton Park, the Lickey Hills and other country places for rambling and picnicking. Birmingham is close to the Cotswolds, the Derbyshire Dales, the Malvern Hills, etc. and all these are easily accessible by good road and rail connections. Birmingham has a good airport, the National Exhibition Centre almost next door to the airport - in fact everything you could want. Of course, there are bits of the city which have a bad reputation - we are always hearing of gun crimes - but which large city doesn't? Visit Birmingham and try some of the things we have told you about. Then you'll know that it is not crap. |

The city centre is wonderful. There's loads to do, not just shopping. There's lots of clubs on Broad Street too. They look pretty good but I'm 16 so I've never been in them. xD
There's lots of really good restaurants around too.
Once you get out of the city centre though it's not very nice IMO. There's lots of places AROUND Birmingham and NEAR to Birmingham that are nice, but I can't think of many places actually in Birmingham that I like. But the city centre's good. :) |

i grew up there and wished i could go back - its got alot of great parts - it was known as the city of a thousand trades and britain was built industrially on the back of birmingham and manchester |

I was born there, but I live in America in a small town in NH. I go there almost every year, and Birmingham is nice. You just have to stay out of the sketchy areas. There's a lot to do there because it's the 2nd biggest city. If you like shopping, go to the Bull Run or Bull ring or whatever it's called. Trust me, you'll know it when you see Selfridges. (hehe). There's a lot of family oriented stuff there too if you're interested in that. Oh and stay away from the Blue's Stadium. Aston Villa all the way. |

No it's not. People in Birmingham get the best grades and/or Levels in school. Woot Birmingham! |
