No, it's not just you. This country is unrecognisable from the country I grew up in. Just about everything that was good about it has been changed for the worse. I have written dozens of letters to my MP about things as diverse as the compulsory wearing of crash helmets and seat belts and the introduction of the 70mph limit to the selling of our gold reserves and the surveillance society to the taking away of our guns. You can tell by this that I am getting on now, I was bombed in the war, but even in those dark days ,we had a great pride in our country which has now been lost, and our freedoms handed to immigrants. It gives me no pleasure to say it, but if we had a war, those who have come here would be off like scalded cats. They certainly would not fight for us. |

It's getting ridiculously expensive. It's getting more and more difficult to get a foot on the property ladder - especially if you live in London. If you're tired of renting then you better get used to long commutes as you'll have to live way outside the city!
My opinion is very London centric I admit as I've lived here for 4 years but you really notice that you're paying through the nose...I mean even a bottle of water at 1.25 is almost the price of a single bus journey! It's astounding, I went to Japan recently and was shocked that the prices I was paying were the same as in London. It's impossible to save money if you're living in London. Prices are going up every year, be it food, drink, houses and rent, crime has been on the increase now as well. The UK in general has been seriously neglected by the Labour government who care too much about causing trouble in the middle east rather than sorting out problems in their own back yard!
I definitely plan on leaving Britain within the next 5 to 10 years and maybe move to either Europe, NZ or SouthEast Asia, all are a lot cheaper and have a better quality of life. |

At the moment I think it needs a kick in the pants. I am from Australia and we needed and took our kick in the pants in the 80s when (in the sporting field) we performed pathetically in the Olympics, and (financially) there was talk of us becoming 'the poor white trash of Asia'. Them was fighting words and we did something about it. I am not saying we are better than Britain, or perfect. I do think, from my impressions on being there as a visitor, that that the place was stuck in a frame of mind (looking back at past glory) at the expense of getting your hearts and backs into the future. Believe it or not I love the UK and its historical achievements. Personally I think you had a very bad 'fall from the horse' following the First and Second World Wars (loss of Empire and economic exhaustion). You have so much to give the world in the future....... |

Yes Britain has gone downhill and has, under New Labour, Turned into a nasty evil little place. (I realise that many of you in our old Emprire realised this years ago).
My evidence is in the recent UNICEF report which shows the UK to be the worst place in the rich world for children. |

yes it absolutely is . by about 2" per year on the east side . but seriously ,it was st. georges day today and the scout movement hold a parade through the town . it is getting less and less support each year . it seems nobody is proud to be british . that is due to the government taking away our identity. |
