Steve

Is England called 'United Kingdom' or vice-versa?

This is so confusing. Which is which? And if UK/England is in Europe, doesn't that mean that UK/England is a city because Europe is a country? Life would be easier if everyone else just named themselves after American cities.

You wrote, 'life would be easier if everyone just named themselves after American Cities.' Errr......wrong way round. Here is a short but by no means exhaustive list of U.S. cities named after places in the U.K.:
Boston
Chatham
Gloucester
Manchester
New York (York)
and for good measure, France:
New Orleans
If you are over the age of about 14, you should be hanging your ignorant head in shame. Don't they teach Americans anything at all about the rest of the World?

Wow. Ok, here goes:

Europe is not a country. Europe is a continent.

The UK is like a collection of countries. England is one of the countries in the UK. The others are Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

What you said about England being a city makes no sense whatsoever. If you're just meaning the "next level down" of government from country, you forgot state/province/territory as well as county.

You are obviously still at school, so maybe you should ask your teacher.

It's really not that confusing...unless you're a bit..well..slow.

Europe is NOT a country you donkey!! it's a continent!! what the hell are you learning at school?!?

And I think you'll find that actually - the US named a lot of their cities after our own cities here in the UK.

England is within the United Kingdom - the United Kingdom is made up of England. Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

If you are in the USA, never ask a teacher that question, for few have the basic educational qualifications to answer you correctly.

Kind regards
Dr Antony (I live in the USA and I'm an Englishman).

The UK is not a Country, but a Union of,
England,
Scotland,
Wales
and Northern Ireland,

England is part of the united kingdom
United kingdom is built up of different countrys, scotland, wales, nothern island and england...

Europe is a continent a continent is built up of countrys so no england isn't a city, englands capital city is London which is a fraction of the size

New York is named after York in England

The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland, and Wales. Each is an independent nation, with their own governments, united for the common good (now).

As such, each would be akin to the individual states in the US. And the UK is one of the many sovereign nations that have decided to band together in a Free-Trade union for further advantages, based upon the Euro as a common currency. So the EU, while it has designs on becoming the government of a greater United Europe, is still not there yet. Heck, they can't all agree on a currency or a constitution.

I don't know if this is a serious question, but I'll answer it anyway

Europe is a continent
England, along with Scotland and Wales, is part of the United Kingdom (hence the name "United," somewhat like how the states are all part of one country).
The UK is a country.

Lemon
England comprises of Scotland, England and Wales. And the UK comprises of England and N. Ireland.

The UK is in Europe which is a continent not a country.
