No most hate us for being arrogant.......we don't care though because the opinions of others are not valid.

Charlee
yeah for benefits, ask the asians and poles they seem to get more than us english and we were born here otherwise you go sheffield for steel, stoke-on-trent for pottery and so on

We are the major trading place in the world luvvie. The Beatles, Invented most sport, great history (we've owned near enough every country in the world and given them back, PC). Everyone hates us and I couldn't give a toss. But we come second on popularity behind USA. Where are you from? Mars?

Viola V

zerofool2005
We have made a lot of countries civilsed societies. If it wasnt for us theyd still be running round eating each other. We have also invented/discovered nearly everything you take for granted today. Lightbulb, TV, PC, Internet, A-Bomb

Yes, England is popular.

England is the country which gave the world William Shakespeare.

England and the English gave the world the English language.
Master Geoffrey Chaucer - The Canterbury Tales.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE0MtENfOMU

In the Middle Ages, when a person could have their ears cut off for so much as having an opinion, the English invented trial by jury. From that time a person had to be proved beyond all reasonable doubt to be guilty.

Magna Carta

The English invented Parliamentary Democracy - a behind the scenes look at PMQs [Prime Ministers Questions] at the House of Commons in the Palace of Westminster - London

The English created the world's first real stock exchange right here in the heart of London - The Royal Exchange - in the reign of Queen Elizabeth the First. It meant that the people could buy and sell shares, part ownership of cargoes and anything else including tulip bulbs and the South Sea Bubble and all the rest that has followed.

haha I agree with Viola V, and plus its really London thats popular, its seen as a expensive and rich place where all the "rich" people go for their holidays, I live in London and I don't see anything special about it except its ridiculously expensive to live it, to buy a one bedroom apartment in central London would cost no less than £1million, expensive eh? Also I think its because London is the most cosmopolitan and multi cultural city in the world lol

yeh, i dont know why

everyone is either rude or too polite - i say sorry to someone who has knocked into me and they say sorry back...we are strange people

i personally think england is overated and i want to move...look at our weather and economy at the moment except loads of immigrants insist on moving here - i dont know why!

i think the reason why england/britian is popular with tourists is becuase of its history, sport (we invented pratcically every one - football, cricket, rugby, tennis etc...) and i suppose food...
