Liver (or Lifer) is an old English word meaning dark.
The Liver is so called because it is the darkest organ in the body.
So the city of Liverpool got its name from an old tidal inlet which became muddy as water drained out of a dark muddy pool, which was situated near to the Old Mersey tunnel entrance. |

there are lots of different theories about the origin of the name.
Some say it is from the Welsh word Llyvrpwl meaning "pool of confluence" , some say it comes from the Norwegian Liafra meaning thick with muddy water and others Norwegin lifrig meaning tidal creek filled with water.
Some have even suggested laver meaning seaweed |

There was once a pool of Liverpool but it was filled in and roughly covered the area of which is now known a Liverpool One. It was also blocked by the Salthouse Alfred Canning and Georges docks complex. The latter of which has the Old Dock office Cunard and Liver buildings there
OI don't think you will find any cellars there because in the old buildings they tended to flood after heavy rain. The pool still exists because you can never completely get rid of a water course and one day when we we have all nuked ourselves the pool will return |

The reason why it has POOL at the end of its name is because it is at a PORT.
This is found at the edge of an ocean, sea, river, or lake.
Ports often have cargo-handling equipment such as cranes (operated by longshoremen) and forklifts for use in loading/unloading of ships, which may be provided by private interests or public bodies. Often, canneries or other processing facilities will be located near by.
eg, BlackPOOL |

I presume pool is something to do with docks, but I don't know.
it's like how long before newcastle drops the new, it's a trade description violation.
