Is London a dirty City?

Compared to the countryside, Yes, but as a City, No, not really.

Even the cars give out less pollution than they used to. I remember visiting London 25 yrs ago to paint the outside of a building and watching black bits in the air floating down onto my wet paintwork. I don't think I'd experience that now. And I remember jogging and tasting petrol fumes in my lungs. I think London is a whole lot better nowadays.

Paris, I remember dodging dog cr*p allover the pavement. London is much better.

Depends on your standard for city cleanliness. Bern, Switzerland: London is a filthy cesspit by comparison. Casablanca, Morocco: London is a clinically clean new pin by comparison. Take your pick.

Compared to Scandinavia - yes. Compared to Africa, no.

Most of the "dirt" comes from pollution from all the vehicles trying to move around a medieval city which was not built for vehicles. The congestion charge has removed a lot of the traffic and the buses are now a lot greener than they were 6 years ago. As for pavement litter - there are a team of government employees who do nothing but pick up litter and there are more rubbish bins and newspaper recycling bins around now. When I first moved to London I used to blow my nose and find black stuff there. It no longer happens so either the city has got cleaner or I've just got used to it.

I wouldnt say "dirty" , I Would say some parts are scruffy just like in any other city , some parts are nice and some are abit badly kept. I Live in birmingham and its probably kept abit nicer but london genrally is just an amazing place, i go there lots and i always have a great time. You will love it. Basicaly its very busy and parts are scruffy , not really dirty. Hope i helped. x

Certainly is - tho not as bad as Belfast. Royal Avenue is a disgrace - so much chewing gum everywhere.

Parts of it are, but some areas of London are lovely.

Mommyfaye this is my month!!
London is a wonderful city

Not compared with many majority cities in the world. e.g. In France you will end up with dogs dirt on your shoes strolling around in any city.

Lol i live in London and believe me it is not a dirty city. You'll have a great time here trust me =D

Not particularly. Generally the refuse and waste disposal services are fairly good, although obviously some places - like around fast food restaurants - will always be problem areas.

Gecko Girl
London is rather dirty but it still rocks and Durban is fab!

it's big and has thousands of people coming in and out of it every day so, yes, there's all the litter and mess you'd associate with that ... having said that it could be a whole lot worse

so is it dirty? ... I don't think it's particularly dirty but let's face it sometimes it gets a bit messy

i personally don't think it is, i see street cleaners everywhere and those big street sweeping machine things all the time

London is the best city in the world, come to CHELSEA west London its amazing, GOD IS GREAT

Hildurutvarpshaus
I'd say that it wasn't dirty because it's cleaned all day long by city workers who are doing a great job. The city in England that has the dirtiest feel to it is Liverpool and London is nowhere close to that.

Oh, but if you're going to London you should watch out not to stay out too late because then the streets get eerily empty and the only people out seem to be very dodgy.

b beru
yes

Duisend-poot
I think it is but nothing like Durban SA. I don't enjoy going to London at all. I am a bush-baby.
