Is London a good place to visit?

I am thinking about going to London. Have you ever gone? Was it worth the money? Was it fun? Expensive? A good experience? What was your favorite part and least favorite part of the trip? Is it crowded, smelly and dirty? Or is it really nice? Is the British museum really interesting? I am also going to go to Paris, but is there any other place in europe that you highly reccomend going to? :-) Thanks for your help! It is greatly appreciated!

Hi, Here's what I always pass along!
Wow...you're in for a treat! Wear good walking shoes because London is a superb walking city. Bring a good map of the city and begin. Be a happy tourist and first hop on one of the major red double decker tour buses which afford you a perfect overview of London and you can "hop on and off" as often as you please...some for two days! I love www.theoriginaltour.com ! Highlights (see www.londonwalks.com): National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, Tate Modern Museum, London Eye, Covent Gardens (great shops n restaurants), St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, see a play!, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Tower of London.
Know London has many beautiful parks which can be your oasis when needing a rest. Kensington Gardens in one of the world's wealthiest areas - See Princess Di's Kensington Palace and shop Kensington High St. and wander up Church St. for boutiques and such. Nearby: Royal Albert Hall, Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum. Hyde Park connects to Kensington Gardens. Explore Chelsea for boutiques as well. St. James Park - beautiful, sole restaurant inside. Green Park - high tea at the Ritz, Fortnum & Mason, Picadilly Circus (think Times Square). Shopping streets: Oxford, Bond, check for weekly markets...BUY "TIMEOUT LONDON" weekly magazine. Boat trip on the Thames - a must. Don't forget - you can take the EUROSTAR Chunnel train to Brussels or Paris for day trips (2.5 hrs +/- each way!) Hope this helps. Have a fantastic time! :)

Personally, I've been all over the world and was disappointed in London. There's nothing particularly interesting about the architecture other than the house of parlaiment and the London Eye should be called the London Eyesore. It really looks hugely out of place.

I'd go to Rome, but I've never been so that is just going by what I've heard lots of people say. Beautiful art on every corner, archictecture that spans mellinia, food that is delicious which is so totally NOT what I would say about England. Blech, and I'm very easy to please. Their food just sucks. Although, the beer was out of this world.

If you do end up going and are renting a car, leave London immediately. The countryside of England is gorgeous. It rains so much that the hills are verdant green. I went to Warick castle which was phenomenal. So much better than White castle.

When you go to Paris, be sure to leave lots of time for the Louvre. I'm not a huge museum buff, but it was fascinating and I could have spent a couple of days there easily.

Also be sure to go to Versailles when in Paris. It is spectacular and well worth the time and the $35 US to go (or whatever it costs now).

Not to drag on, but I've heard Frankfurt is pretty cool.

Depends on the time of year, budget and what exactly you want to accomplish, which will be good for all, especially Londoners.

unluckyone
definitely a good place to visit but it was very expensive. over all though it was worth the trip

jnghnl_lee
not really THe place to visit, cause the weather's not really good at all

london is THE place to visit. if you see nothing else before you die, see london. just take plenty of cash.....

It is expensive, but it's free to walk around and check out the sights like House of Parliament, The Thames, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, Oxford St, Carnaby St, Leicester Square, Buckingham Palace. The train tickets are a bit more expensive than most cities. It only gets expensive if you wanna hit the shops. I stayed at Kensington Rooms Hotel which was reasonably priced and in a great location. Located in the most affluent suburb in the UK.

It is definitely fun, apart from the crowds. Just avoid peak hour on the tube. My favourite part is the buildings and architecture and ambience! Least favourite is the generally rude service in shops and restaurants.

Paris is lovely! I recommend going to Venice, but for something closer to Paris, Lucerne in Switzerland was great. Cute little place and you can go to the top of Mt Pilatus for fantastic alpine views.

Well I live 20km from London and go there a lot. It's a great place tho inner London is often expensive. There are some great places 2 visit like musuems, clubs, restaurants, hotels etc and shopping or just relaxing in a health club. Great for a few days, and London has a gr8 atmosphere. Its not really dirty. 4 Toilets best bet is a restaurant but buy something unless its McDonalds or a toilet in a museum or wherever u r visiting. There are a few public toilets but they are rare.

Not worth the money. The only thing cool about it is the setup....and yes, you may think I am crazy, but I am serious and if you end up going there you'll agree.

Hi Ive lived in London for 15 years so i know it rather well. It is a really great place to visit, there are so many great museums and art gallerys. There is a great night life - i recommend Leicester Square. You should go and see a show. It can be expensive (especially when you exchange your dollars for sterling - the exchange rate sucks for you!)
Go to amsterdam!! It soo good. It has museums and culture and is very beautiful. and if its your thing - they sell weed in coffee shops as its legal there. Hope this helps!

Wait for a few more years until it is near 2012. Then I can assure you it will be a wonderful place to visit.

But generally, it is a good place to be.

I used to live in london and can really say if you have the oppurtunity to go make the effor. London is one of those cities that caters for everyone, if u like museums they got awesome ones, u like shopping they got everything from gucci to real awesome vintage, wanna go for live music, chances are on of ur favorite musicians are playing, all i wanna say is london caters to you every need. People always say london is expensive but if you try and steer a bit clear of the tourist places its not as bad as everyone says. And their transport is fabulous so getting around is easy as pie! so yeah...hope this helps and have fun!

I work for expedia.com and yes, London is one of our famous tourist destinations. Expensive? Well yes. International flights are usually expensive. Check out our company website. Information regarding London and Paris are there.

Expensive but all worht it not really smelly but central london is always crowded. You are better off though goin to the Caribbean where everythin is almost cheap.

London is a good place to visit. Unless you have connections there, I suggest going in a tour group - especially if you're older with children along. You'll feel more secure. If you're young and going with a friend, or friends, you should hone your dart and snooker skills. Look up to the top of the buildings and cites as little as possible. Be polite, and do as them. I was stationed there as a diplomatic courier. Paris? Stay away!

Jane Austen
I don't know much about London, but Wales is AWESOME!!! I've been there 3 times, each for 2 weeks, and I'm going again in 3 weeks!!!

Chelsea Maye
