Is Stoke On Trent in the Midland or "up North"?

I thought it was north but not too sure!!

Stoke is in England, and, therefore, as far as we in Scotland are concerned it is "down south".

(Direction is always relative)

DAVID H
West Midlands is the correct regional location.

Stoke is located in the North of the county of Staffordshire close to the border with Cheshire which is within the North West region.

♥
Stoke is in the West Midlands.
I'm pretty sure it's about half way between Manchester and Birmingham.

Col
" Up North " ????

Thurso in Caithness is up North . It is 520 miles NORTH of Stoke .

London is 154 miles SOUTH of Stoke . Stoke in an English context may be termed Midlands but in the eyes of many is very much in the deep south !

ren w
it's in the west midlands region

jo jo
its the midlands north west

Alan B
According to a map an compass its south.
i live in lancashire

Steve D
It depends who you ask, if you live on the south coast most will answer that it is "up north" but if you live in Scotland the answer will be different.
I was brought up in Yorkshire and would say that Stoke was in the Midlands, "The Black Country".

carina
depends where you're standing ... from London it's probably "up north" ... from Newcastle it's probably "down south" ... if you look at a map of the whole country you'd definitely say "midlands"

Midlands

Southern people say up North to refer to it because everything is North to us apart from the West cuntry

It's Midlands, North is the wrong expression for it as the North is HUGE.

It's in the North Midlands, just. Staffordshire is counted as a Midland county, while Cheshire is usually counted as "Northwest", and the border's about 6 miles away from the city.
