Is a provisional driving licence sufficient proof of ID for an internal UK flight?

A provisional driving licence is worth as much as a full driving licence (well, as ID- not for driving obviously!)

Some airlines are OK with just photographic ID, but some still want a passport.

Check with your airline. It's not worth the risk of being refused onto the plane.

Yes, provisional is accepted as ID everywhere, normally along with a birth certificate though, not sure about he flight though.

It's just making me mad that people say provisional isn't I.D because I know it is :o)

Abnormally Attracted To Sin
You could check on the airline's website but most insist on seeing an unexpired passport to travel, even with domestic flights. That said, if you turned up and all you had was a driving licence they'd probably permit you to fly, but I would definitely recommend getting a passport instead, if possible.

Not so many years ago you could fly with no ID at all but things have changed a lot even over the last year.

You need to check with the airline, many insist on a passport now and it's not worth taking the risk of being turned away.

No, it isnt a valid form of ID for anything official,
In fact recently even for internal flights ( with most flight operators) you still need a valid passport.

Check with the airline, I know someone who flew to Scotland from London without ID or with only photo ID (not sure which) but was required to produce his passport (which he didn't have with him) so he could fly back. He had to wait for it to be couriered up to him! This happened last year.

Stig Bubblecard
I think it was until 7/7 and now its only passports. Check with the airline.

well i booked an internal uk flight not long ago, and asked them if i could use my driving license as proof of id. they said yes. mine is a full license, but presumably a provisional would be sufficient as long as it has your photo and signature on it.
hope this helps :)

I'm not sure but I wouldn't have thought so. I don't think it's proof of ID at all.

Cider King's Back
Yes i think so as it has your photo on

No way.

Champagne 7 SUSPENDED AGAIN
No. A provisional is not accepted as proof of id anywhere.

Matt
Yes, although they may ask for two forms of identification.
