ENGLAND

Easy Peasy
London, England
or
London, United Kingdom
London, Great Britain
Are all valid but the most precise is of course London, England
United Kingdom seems to be replacing Great Britain in general usage
The same is true for Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast only the first one changes to the appropriate country
Edinburgh, Scotland -
Cardiff, Wales
and
Belfast Northern Ireland
All can be postfixed with United Kingdom.

The strongly nationalists might disagree but the above is still valid
Some people seem to equate the term London, United Kingdom with the idea that it is the capital of the United Kingdom this is incorrect the United Kingdom doesn't have a capital city, each country has their own.

London is in England, Great Britain and the United Kingdom ; but in the UK and in all the rest of Europe it is just called London.

Same as Rome is just Rome and not Rome, Italy as Americans often say (the city of Rome pre-dates the state of Italy by 1500 years or so).

Either are correct geographically speaking. London is the capitol of Great Britain, as well as being part of the subsidiary country of England. So while both are correct, most people do say London, England, as Glasgow, Belfast, and Cardiff are capitols in their own right.
