It is not any more dangerous than staying at home.

Come to London, it is one of the world's great cities.

Of course there is crime, but it is not any worse than any major city.

The murder rate is a lot lower than Dallas, Miami and Chicago.

A LOT lower.

There have been stories about knife and gun crimes - these tend to happen in areas that tourists wouldn't get to even by accident. What is considered shocking in London wouldn't make the front page in Denver.

Nearly all the murders and gun crime in London is pre planned on specific target, it is very rarely random.
Most of if it is gang related and they target specific people in other gangs for whatever reason.

So unless you plan to join a gang you should be fine

Captain birdseye is 100% right, the murder rate in New York is 6.9 per 100000 making it the safest big city in the US.
Londons murder rate is 2.4 per 100000 making it safer than any city in the US and one of the safest in the world!!!
Compare this to 69.3 in Washington!!!
Only four "major" cities have less murders than London they are Rome, Athens, Brussels and Dublin

Britain is safe! The third world isn't, neither is the middle east, and neither is the US - Britain is as safe as houses (which means very safe!).

London is a safe city.

New York total number of murders 2007 = 700
UK total number of murders 2007 = 500

London is SAFE believe me, I'm a Londoner and London is well worth a visit. You'll only regret it if you don't come and soon.

Meanwhile, have a look at the Trafalgar Square webcam, it refershes every 5 seconds - at least you know when it's raining in London.

By searching for places on the above map before you come to London, you'll know pretty much where you are going when you get here.

I searched the interactive map of Paris before I went last month and when I arrived walked from the station to my hotel stopping off for drinks along the way and did not get last - the map was firmily in my head - I think.

London is not small for the one above its bigger than NYC in size.

Anyways I guess youll be visiting central London the main tourist attractions and that hardly anyone lives there and the only ones who do a rich snobs yes people all over London go there to shop and that but not packs of gangs and stuff the only things to watch out for in the city centre are just pick pocketers. The news has been concentrating on the rise in youth violence but overall crime is down. The teenagers getting killed were for sometimes a reason but 100% nothing will happen to you Im 17 and I aint had no problem well not a big one and I live in the notorious Hackneys murder mile its inner London but not the central and I guess you wont be wondering out of central London into the inner city communities.

Dont listen to all them stupid stories its safe

Derke N
Crime is down but there is an increase in gang violence - young people on young people. This generally doesn't happen in the centre of town but in deprived areas.

You'll be fine. Millions of people live in London, several millions more commute in every day, countless millions visit as tourists or on business... It's really not some kind of lawless violent hellhole, don't believe the hype!

London is one of the safest places to go. They have more camera's all over London then they have anywheree else in the world. I go to London almost every year and have never felt unsafe. London is a small place with a lot of people in it. I would not wonder around by myself at night. I would not wonder around at night were I live in the USA by myself. I think many females feel like this.
