If you check out the chart at the site below, it will give you the averages for London's weather in January - most years.

As you can see, the people in these shots are not dressed like they do in Canada or say New York. It might be cold, but not freezing. In fact the day time temp might be as high as 45 to 50F - if we're lucky.
You'll just have to bring winter warm clothes with you and then see how it goes.
Have a great trip - meantime, here's some 360-pans of London.

It may be chilly, but we don't usually get snow until a bit after the New Year, say Jan into Feb.

Because of global warming we don't tend to get snow around Christmas / New Year anymore - this year it came at Easter!
However it can and does rain a lot in London so be prepared for this. No one can tell you whether it will rain on New Year's Day this far ahead unless they are a psychic. Most of the weather reporters can't even tell you if it's going to rain today accurately because the weather is so unpredictable.
If it helps, it hasn't rained the past 2 New Years in London in fact as I remember it was quite sunny but very cold. You'll need a winter coat, scarf, boots and an umbrella. It's not as cold as New York gets but you'll still need warm clothes. |

it is more than likely that it wont snow though... dont remember a christmas when it did.
it will probably be round 5 celcius... like probably cold to you if your from the states... so bring warm clothes
and an umbrella
coz it is always raining here. |

Rain is always a safe bet. London experiences the urban heat island effect, being slightly warmer than the surrounding countryside. Snow is more likely in January than in December, but in all likelihood you won't see any snow. |

Nobody can say for sure, but snow is quite unusual in London - more likely to happen later in January/February if it happens at all (this year there were snow showers at Easter), but rain is quite likely, though we could have nice sunny but cold weather instead.
By US standards, it's not cold, nothing like New York, with temperatures more likely than not to be above freezing in the daytime, and possibly not freezing at night if we're lucky. |

This year will be fine with sunny showers. It will rain some days but no snow. |
