Born and bred in Guildford surrey, which is the epicentre of what your referring to.Hampshire and sussex are great, but surrey is tops. Its beautiful and still relatively polite and civil. If you have a family then its the place to be (girls are pretty too) |

I live in Surrey, and although I've never lived anywhere else to compare it with, its a great place to live. Crime figures are very low and the surroundings are indeed beautiful. The schools are very good, but it depends where you live in Surrey, some places are really nice, but others arent so good, which accounts for the crime but there are other places in the UK which are of equal beauty and crime levels, but maybe not the house prices or salaries. |

Devon is the most beautiful place and has plenty of leisure activities. However, if you must be close to London then I'd opt for Kent. |

I thnk northumberland is, we have beautiful surroundings, forrests, hills, beaches, loads of countryside and wildlife, we have excellent schools, we have extremely nice houses, you could buy a much bigger house up here than you could in surrey, for your money, the air is cleaner up here,We are under populated and the people are really friendly, but we are miles and miles away from londonj |

That is where I live and yes it is nice, but there are also some dodgy places,( have you been to Chessington ?! )And you do pay for the privilege of living here...very expensive houses ! |

You will need Hunter wellies, a Barbour Jacket/coat. A Purdey or Holland and Holland shotgun/pair of. Top of class Chelsea Tractor (Range Rover). Second home in Norfolk and a mistress. Oh, for the last you will have to be an M.P. of either the Labour or Conservative Party. You will then settle in nicely. |

Yep... Its the realm of the green welly brigade. |

Yes your points are correct. I often go hiking in the beautiful Surrey Hills; also Surrey has a very dense rail network with fast frequent services into London |

Surrey is great! theres loads of public transport so you can get anywhere really!

Yes in the South of England,
But have you ever been to the English Lake District? |

Yes, I grew up in Surrey. It is a very nice county.
To be more specific though....Cheltenham, Bath, Harrogate and Tunbridge Wells are much nicer places to live than anywhere in Surrey. |

I live in a beautiful village in S.E. Cornwall, and would much rather live here than among the la de dah's in Surrey. We still enjoy gorgeous scenery, low crime rate, and the tiny school in my village has less than 40 pupils.O.K. the wages here aren't brilliant, but the friendliness of my neighbours, the fact that I don't have to lock my doors, and the fact we don't allow ourselves to be "bossed about" by the "green wellie brigade" is worth a kings ransom. Although, they come here and buy up all the properties, and TRY to take over.
I look after a lovely holiday let, in Polruan, Cornwall, and we have a lot of people from Surrey coming down to stay. They are the rudest, most arrogant and pushy people imaginable, and TRY their best to intimidate, and belittle us. We have a group in now, and I dread to think what we will find when we go in to clean on Saturday, as they think WE are only put on this earth to clean, and bow down to them. They can keep Surrey, and preferably stay there!!!! |

No.
I was born and raised in Surrey, and I've preferred...
Central London as a student in the 70's
(everything to do... all at hand)
Cambridge in the 80's
(Just as good for London, but far nicer than Guildford!)
They don't just dish out those high salaries because you're in Surrey! The high salaries are what you *need* to have those nice houses... fine if you can get them. Everyone else lives in despair of ever getting a house.
And Surrey is crowded.
Me, I admit I'm lucky. I'm now in Cornwall. You couldn't tempt me back to Surrey with any inducement that comes easily to mind. |
