Is it safe for a 16 yr old to stay in London by herself?

I'm going to a summer programme in Oxford in August 2007, but it's only for twelve days and I really want to stay to explore London for longer.

Im your age and I live in London and go around by myself every day. That includes at night. Of course you will probably make Friends and maybe they would like to go to London with you.
Once you reach London, if you get booked into a nice hotel then your fine.
But its like any normal city in the world, just stay around the tourist areas and let someone know where you are. Just stay away from certain areas like East and South London. Stay in the West and Central London.
Definitely come down to London and experience it, its such an amazing city, the shopping is the best and the tourist areas are great.
If you want any more info on London email me: maddy1005@hotmail.co.uk

Hope this helps you tho!!

No major city is going to be entirely safe but, so long as you don't spend too much time wandering round alone after dark, London isn't too dangerous a place.

Avoid unlicensed minicabs!

I would say no - sorry. Might it be better to see if you can find an agency that places minors in "vetted" families or does your family know anyone that you could stay with over here?

I was a student in London at the age of 19 and I know now (being older and wiser) that while I felt I was suitably street-wise and sensible, that really I relied a great deal on the support mechanisms provided by my university, friends etc etc.

At 16 I think that you could land yourself in hot water very easily if you're completely on your own - try to find an alternative way of spending time in what is a fantastic and exciting city... if you play it safe.

Enjoy your visit anyway.

You know Oxford isnt in London right??? Which means youd have to get a train or something to London and then find somewhere to stay... its good fun though see if you can find some friends to go with you

Probably as safe as it is anywhere---------16 yr olds are prey to many bad elements-------have a friend with you, or older companion--------

Arcadia
Yeah sure, just be streetwise and stay safe and you'll be fine.

NO! What kind of parents would let that happen? They should come with you. Then, you all can explore London together.

no, it's not because the world is filled with people that would want to hurt you for money,to kill you, or rape you so i would say no.
