Watching The Devil's Own for understanding Anglo-Irish relations is like watching old cowboy films to get an understanding of the culture of North American Indians. It's an appalling, bigoted film.
You're more likely to get beaten up by offended Irish people than British people if you try to put on an Irish accent. London is the great melting pot of the world - all accents welcome, it's the person not the voice that's important. |

There is no longer a British / Irish conflict. There is no law saying that you cant use an Irish accent while walking through London, strange thing to want to do . |

Aside from being laughed at and considered a git, no trouble. |

the British/Irish conflict has long since gone...seems like a strange thing for you to do...don't think anybody would care what you did really....as long as you are not abusive or racist! |

I should be doing something else
|
Hehe, firstly, Brad Pitt in the Devil's Own = Worst attempt at Northern Irish accent ever, so I don't thing anyone in London would even recognise it as being an Irish accent.
Also, I don't think people would be offended at all =] |

Go for it if it helps you learn, if anyone finds it offensive, which they shouldn't thats their problem.
What conflict? I'm British from N.Ireland and I don't have a problem with the Irish, they can be hard to understand sometimes, they talk that quick. |

How is imitating an Irish accent going to help your English exactly? |

You will probably get laughed at but you'll be fine! |

What British/Irish conflict? We're so over that now. We're more worried about middle-eastern terrorists these days. If you want to improve your Irish accent by pretending to be Irish then go for it. You might get some strange looks but most people will just think it's funny. If you want to improve your english then why not imitate the english accent though? Just a thought. |

It'll be safe, I even doubt if people would take the p!ss because your accent doesn't sound right, at least not to your face. Don't forget that many Londoners have Irish friends or family.
I Can't see what the Troubles would have to do with anything. |
