Is it suitable to live in a caravan in the wintertime in the UK for 4 weeks?

jc q
depends where that caravan is standing...

SPARKLING MJR
LIVE AS LONG AS YOU WANT AS LONG AS YOU HAVE GOOD HEAT AND FOOD NO CONCERNS .
SOME HOMELESS PEOPLE WILL THINK ITS HEAVEN

tessie two
it will be very cold and you will need good ventilation to prevent excessive condensation especially overnight. So to keep warm you will use a form of heating, which will provide more condensation - believe me it will be a problem - I am speaking from experience!! We also did not have proper running water or an inside toilet!! What memories!

You can but you might be very cold and uncomfortable.

D
With heating yes

quornandwafflesagain
that shouldn't be a problem most caravans have heaters now so you should be plenty warm enough.

yes its possible - whether you would actually want to is another matter.

You'd have to make sure you had lots of heating and that the dampness was under control.

elliott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
probably not.

It is but it will be very cold, you will need good heating and warm clothes. Also the higher up the country you go the colder it is.
However if you come from Alaska you will probably find it lovely.

lili4ndevil
Dear gawd, I find it too cold in the summertime here for that... how's your circulation? Planning on fattening well up before winter? Or just living in Mummy sleeping bags. BBBRRRRR. Anyway, imagine the carbon dioxide and monoxide you'll throw out on our poor little island if you had to run the heater off the engine all day, all night.

Redhead
Well my caravan is double glazed and has central heating - so it would be ok

tynie98
back in the 60s I had to stay in a caravan due to late hubby being in us forces brought my son up in it we had no problems as far as heating went as there was a heater installed. The wind outside was the problem being rocked about in bad weather.

clara
Yes, as long as it's got adequate heating, and ventilation. If it's not well ventilated and it gets too warm in there you will get too much condensation and that will cause mildew Even your breath and cooking can make it worse. You should really use some sort of de-humidifier or condensation collectors (crystal filled containers), if you contact your nearest camping and caravan shop they will give you some good advise. I've stayed in my caravan in really cold weather and although it was only for about ten days it was absolutely fine. Just remember to take nice warm duvets and plenty of thick jumpers, just in case!

rottielover
Depends what type of caravan you are talking about. The holiday caravans that are sited on holiday camps are not very well insulated and are b.l.o.o.d.y. freezing in autumn, let alone winter. If you are talking about a mobile home style caravan, then they are a bit better insulated and are very comfy if heated throughout the winter.I think touring caravans are in the same league as holiday caravans but it depends what you are willing to put up with and where you are going to site it, obviously Scotland will be a whole lot colder than Cornwall

Wobbly
Well I wouldn't say it's ideal, but if you've got no choice?

michael l
A lot of people live all year round, in them.

As I'm sure you are aware, many people live in worse conditions!
It would probably be very, very cold, but if it's modern it will have some sort of heating. You would have to wear lots of layers to keep warm and have hot drinks. You would also need to make sure that you ate correctly and take vitamin c suplements to avoid getting ill or catching colds etc. I'd also want to make sure that the caravan is weather proof, you don't want to wake up to a leaking roof in the middle of the night.
Caravan holidays are great, but in the winter, it wouldn't be my first choice, although ou winters are getting milder!!
If you are fit, healthy, and sensible I don't think you would come to too much harm. But KEEP WARM!!

Mad Hatter
if you want to die......but death by freezing could be a nice way to go.

whiteShadow
would be cold but its quite fun. Aslong as you've got the fire i'd say go for it! its quite cosy aswell in the winter

annabel m
