Scotland will regain its indepedence and take it's rightful place as an oil producing nation.
Having ousted the Labour-Liberal coalition in 2007, the Scottish electorate have voted in a Scottish Nationalist government as the first step towards independence.
You will note that the ONLY opponents to Scottish independence are those living outwith Scotland. Because they KNOW that post-independence, England cannot survive on its own. It will no longer have the oil to prop up its ailing economy nor the nuclear capacity to defend itself (they are all stored in Scotland!)
As for the c**p about England subsidising Scotland - give us our independence and the English will learn, to their cost, just who has been subsidising who since 1707. |

No, not at all. It's bad enough that our culture is being eroded on a daily basis, so why break it up further? |

How would this benefit us exactly? What's wrong with the UK? I'm English and don't wanna see the UK broken up.... nothing wrong with the United Kingdom - so if it's not broke, don't fix it. |

Why would you want to do that? I'm quite offended. |

re: "the scottish king was invited to rule england, this is what united us and gives our flag it's name (jack is short for james... the proud union jack)."
Jack is another form of John...Jimmy is another name for James and it's the Union Flag. It should only be referred to as the Union Jack when it is flying from the jack of a ship. |

in these times of nations uniting, where we have the EU and europe is slowly moving towards a single economy that would be stronger than any other on the world, why would some people even consider seperating and leaving our wonderful strong nation.
we didn't forge the worlds largest empire as just england, it was the united kingdom, a nation created by james VI of scotland/ I of england.
the scottish king was invited to rule england, this is what united us and gives our flag it's name (jack is short for james... the proud union jack).
anyone who asks that kind of question, i think might need a few history lessons, to see how the united kingdom formed and why we have been so strong together. |

May I ask why? So despite the fact we are heading into a recession you want to make us all even weaker? The second we break up the USA will invade scotland for it's oil under the guise that it has WMD's. |

No. In a more unified Europe, breaking up the United Kingdom would be pointless. With devolution, all of the constituent countries (except England) have their own regional government, which has large amounts of control. I don't think independence for the different parts would change much really. It's odd that in Scotland, with the unification, there was originally a strong movement towards being 'British' which is now turning the other way. I'm sure a lot of the ancestors of Scottish people who are pro-Independence would be rolling in their graves if it ever happened. |

I used to think so but can England survive without Scotland? |

Yes. The UK is much smaller than it was 100 years ago, and as a political entity it forced itself upon Ireland. Ireland never sought or wanted any political association with any country, and resisted it's occupation at every step.
The U.K. still occupies a part of Ireland, having infliced hundreds of years suffering on the Irish. It's time to withdraw from Ireland, as the Irish voted in 1921, 80% to become independent. |
