Is it true that mouthpieces are worn from a young age in the UK to help their accent develop?

I heard this from someone who lived there. It sounds odd though and I doubt it; is it true?

Ha Ha, How funny!, yes of course, it's the law in the U.k for children to wear them, unless of course we are 'taking tea' with the queen!!. They can be quite 'cumbersome' though when we are at our 'scone' making lessons and they can make 'soccer' lessons a nightmare!!

Cymraes.
Someone has been pulling your leg.

Well I have heard that posh people speak as if they have a plum in their mouth, but I doubt if that is true. :-D

I've never heard of such a thing.
That person was probably joking, knowing that you'd believe them.

Not really mouth pieces - we just suck on a plum stone. Not before the age of 3 though as it presents a choking hazard!

Ste A
hahahaha, that's rediculous......but true... We have to wear something that looks like the end of a spoon for about 4 years. Only then are we really british and allowed to have our birth certificate signed by the queen.....

ofcourse not you spaz. Think!

No, we can speak English without an accent. Only non English people and Americans have accents.

Natty-Lea
No that isn't true at all. :-)

Jock
Yeah, you were right to doubt it. Whoever told you that was clearly taking the piss out of you, unless that's what you are doing to us in the UK of course (LOL)?
:)

No. Accents are developed by mimicking people in the area. People who move around as children pick up different accents and can blend them all together.
