Is life in London, UK better than life in Phoenix, Arizona? |
I currently live in Phoenix, AZ, but I plan to move to London, UK. What would be the hardest thing to get used to, and how is life there in general? |

Climate is the most difficult part I would say, unlike the dry sunny desert climate of Arizona, London will take some getting used to with the rain, overcast and smog of the big city.
Food prices are very expensive across the board.
Cultural and language diversity, you will find a lot of people who are not native English speakers in London, unlike Phoenix is mostly English (American) and Spanish.
Life in general is good pace - depending on what you do, the tempo is good and more regular than the equivalent in big American cities like New York or Chicago.
Time seems to go by faster in London than State-side. Enjoy!
Welcome to London! |

Finding somewhere to live....don't plan on buying a property unless you have millions as it costs mega bucks in London...Why London for Gods sake....why not somewhere which is not overcrowded, crime ridden, expensive, unhealthy and one of the dirtiest cities in the world....come North and have a better quality of life, and travel down to London to see the sights......Don't forget to bring a phrase book as hardly anyone in London speaks English anymore. |

The pay you're going to be really upset when you see how expensive everything is, so make sure you either get a job soon or bring over at least twice as much as you need. Also London is quite cosmopolitan so get used to seeing people from just about everywhere in the world. |

omg I love London,s far better than America I d say...
I lived in America for 4 moths when I was 14...
San Francisco... its great though, you know u ll always find, pros and cons...
London is an amazing city, where is easy to travel and never is too late to learn about the European Culture...
These opportunities u dont have in America, as they think the world is America..
You should be really open minded to accept the diversities in London..
People come from everywhere with different backgrounds...
Welcome to London !

you don't have to be rich to live in London obviously money helps but if you get a job you will be able to afford it if you are wise with your money. the weather will take some getting used to but it is still great city with so much to do you can never get bored. the past is quite fast and the various cultures are certainly different to that of Arizona but that's what makes it such a fun and vibrant city live in.
Good luck hope you like it |

If you are moving to UK from USA, no difference, English is spoken widely, many nationalities, different cultures, weather varies, life is like anywhere else, you get used to it |

London's great! But i'm from Holland and i had to get used to some language things... I'm fine doesn't always mean fine and don't say: that's 'nice' as it means awful in England.
Do:
- Join the pub culture with your work mates & get pissed
- Use please, sorry and thank you even though you don't think it's necessary
- Read a hilarios book called watching the english by Kate Fox
- Say (gor) blimey, mobile & bloody ....
Don't:
- Jump ques
- Skip friday after work drinks
- Say ****, buddy or cell phone
- Get into personal stuff with collegues. |

There is a saying "where ever you go, there you are". Problems with life are not generaly specific to the place.
On the practical side get used to rain and gray skys.
There are a lot of beautiful gardens and rich history there as well. I think my favorite thing about London (besides the bridge) is the accent. |
