I have lived in London all my life, but I would move to Liverpool tomorrow if I could! It's a lovely city with many interesting places and the people are the friendliest I've ever met. I think you would be very happy there, but ask some locals about which parts of the city are best for you to live in.

tomothered
Yes it is, you have bad parts and good parts like many cities. The people are really friendly. You may know already but it is capital of culture 2008, for me the city is really moving places.

Good luck

Yawnsville (this is really getting tedious) lets look at reported crime per 100,000 population in the England and Wales using the government’s latest crime statistics.

Camden (London)155.94
Cardiff147.04
Greenwich (London)137.30
Islington (London)163.39
Hull151.01
Leicester148.79
Lincoln140.72
Manchester179.25
Middlesbrough169.76
North East Lincs150.72
Norwich137.62
Oxford134.46
Peterborough138.36
Slough144.65
Southampton154.37
Southwark (London)148.81
Tower Hamlets (Lon)145.03
Westminster (Lon)275.58

Liverpool’s comes in at 132.56 Lower than Lincoln, Manchester, Cardiff and Norwich.

For some reason really stupid people in the UK have this warped view of Liverpool which is as far from reality as it is possible to be. Its funny because the reputation of Liverpool is totally different outside the UK, which is shown by the thousands of tourists who have filled the city this year.

There are plenty of places to rent, these new apartments on the waterfront are desperate for tenants and you should get a good deal.

Work, depends what skills you have, if you are studying then you might find it difficult there are plenty of unskilled people looking for work, but if you are skilled there can't be many better places to live in the Uk

Bonjourno!,
The places that are rough in Liverpool eg (croxteth, norris Green, Huyton, Stocksbridge Village etc) are mostly housing estates in the north. Anyone from outside Liverpool would have no reason to visit these areas.besides that most of the actual crime is drug and gang related and people outside of this are unlikely to be harmed.

The South of Liverpool (where most people visiting Liverpool stay is quite safe, even the once no-go area of Toxteh is a hive of artisitic talent, new money, students and bohemians.

You will not find another city in the UK like Liverpool GUARENTEED There is always interesting things going and although it is a well worn cliche. The people of Liverpool do have a genuine warmth and great sense of humour.
I personally would recommend finding a place around the Lark lane area. beautiful park, lively social scene and Buddhist meditation centre to chill out in at the end of the week. you can also live there. Its also a hell of a lot cheaper to live in Liverpool than down South (and friendlier too!)

Liverpool is the capital of culture and has had loads of improvements lately, and the people are very friendly. Just choose a nice area to live in! There's also loads of things to do there, you won't be bored! Great university also! Good luck

BUMBUMbee.
I live in Liverpool, as all places we have our good and bad points. But overall im pretty sure that you will love Liverpool. Liverpool has a pretty bad reputation, i know. But people don't realise the good parts of liverpool, The Shops, the bars, the history and obviously being the European capital of culture 08. :)

Liverpool is a good spot. I am in and out of the city regularly and lease a small studio there. I went to university in Liverpool over ten years ago and thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from that experience. I have not had one problem in Liverpool in years. I find south of the city the better areas. It has a diversity of harmonious cultures and apart from the frustrating shared bus routes instead of one universal bus operator I cannot find any fault with the place. All the silly crime and hubcaps innuendos are lame and unfounded. It's cool. Liverpool once had a community known as "Little Italy."

I have lived in the south of Liverpool nearly all my life and it is a case of take it as you find it. Most people are helpful and some will even go out of there way to put you in the right direction The city has changed a lot over the last year or so which means that if you get poor directions it is because it has changed not because people are unhelpful. Parts I would not wish to go but that is the same as any other city and the City centre is safe if you are sensible. In spite of recent news you will find the city very much a live and let live. There is a fairly large Italian community in Liverpool and I am sure you will find a good base

Echoing all the other intelligent answers on here, Liverpool, like any city has good and bad but the city centre is one of the safest in the UK and most vibrant in my opinion. Nobody can guarantee if you move somewhere you won't fall vicitm to crime but again this can happen anywhere, just use common sense and you should be fine. Liverpool has bad stereotypes, usually started by the press when the city fell into a decline 30 years ago and scousers have a reputation of being a bit touchy so the idiots come on here to try and wind us up, but in actuality we just stick up for what we believe in and aren't afraid to speak our minds.

There are nice student areas in the goergian quarter of Liverpool 8 and Lark Lane in Aigburth, so if you study you might want to consider these areas, but as others have said South Liverpool has the best areas, Allerton Rd is also popular with students. Regarding work, I work in the theatre and if you're a student these are reallly good places to work if you're looking for casual and part time work as they're very flexible and nice places to work, so maybe try one of the theatres.

Regarding crime, I don't think Liverpool has had the worst crime rate in the UK for quite some time now, it's completely old hat and places like London, Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow and Birmingham all have more crime, but again I would never say don't visit them as I know these cities are filled with good things.

Whatever you choose to do best of luck to you!:)

Some nice places in Liverpool

Ellen Cherry Charles
liverpool is a very exciting place to live- vibrant, lively, huge old buildings, beautiful parks, and lots of places to eat and drink.

of course there is crime, but only in some areas like in every city. it is certainly not as run-down and depressing as other english cities- i know, i've lived in them!

Liverpool is like any town or city. It has it's bad areas and good. Some people who have never been there, will give you information that is out-dated, prejudiced or false. Go there and enjoy yourselves.

I was born and raised in Liverpool and, although I have been to many other places, I am always glad to be home. You don't realise, until you have been away and returned, just how friendly and helpful people are.
I would agree that the South of the city (Aigburth, Woolton, Allerton) are nicer places to live. The Lark Lane are is especially nice.

i will be honest with you.
i dont think you will like it, or it will at least take a lot of adjusting.
i recently moved from near london to liverpool
and it took me a long time to adjust to it, i cried every day for the first few weeks because it was such a shithole. liverpool itself is very bleak, its a mixture of redbrick and grey (sky, sea, buildings, people etc) its inconsistant, there are some really lovely buildings and architecture, but there could be a really nice row of houses, and on the other side of the road theres burnt out council houses. the shopping is disapointing, with the new liverpool one, you would have thought the shops would be good, theyre not, theyre small and crap. it is very cold, a lot colder than the south in general. there is often a chill wind. on the other hand, the weather is good, it doesnt rain as much as it does in the south, and it is generally quite sunny. however there is sometimes a sea mist which takes a while to clear. and just walking around you often get a wiff of human ****. it is a very cheap place to live, things are so cheap, compaired to elsewere in england.
its not all bad though, its like anywhere once you settle in and make your friends and stuff, you'l be fine.

i would steer clear of the smithdown road, and the wavetree road as well. i would suggest living in the wirrel, which is the peninsula across the river mersey, you will have a much higher standard of living there, and its easy to get across.

hope that helps x

Why have you chosen Liverpool to live?. It is very run down and depressing. The people may be friendly and a wonderful sense of humour, but the depressing surroundings will soon get you down. And I'm sure your wife won't like it, she won't feel safe.

There are so many other cities in the UK that are great places to live. Lincoln is one. It is on the east side of the country so is not so wet and grey. More sunshine too. Large student population, friendly people, very historic. Good shopping for the wife.

Ignore what you have heard about Nottingham, but again it has a lot to offer in terms of culture, one of the top UK universities, friendly locals, good transport links, plenty of work. You should be able to get a council flat as you are euro citizen.

Liverpool has been run by a succession of incompetent left wing councils that have succeeded in running this once proud, historical city into the ground. Streets of boarded up houses left to rot because they were going to be demolished in some forgotten road widening scheme. It is a shame but, at the present moment in time, I would think again.

Bee ♥
i live near liverpool (in runcorn) & yes liverpool is a nice place to live. of course every area has it rough places but i really like it, its great for shopping and has loads of stuff to do :)
i would suggest moving to cheshire though, its 15mins on the train away from liverpool and its really nice there i lived there for 15years
if you have any questions dnt hesitate 2 ask me
hope i helped

If you move to Liverpool you may as well say goodye to your watches and jewellery!!

Nah seriously, i would say there are probably some nice places and definitely some awful places like in any city.

Liverpool is England's capital of crime. Yes you can probably share a room with ten other foreign families if you want to, but remember to dodge the bullets on your way to your job every morning. Liverpool has criminal families that rule it, and they are untouchable by the police, so you will get shot at most days. All the cars have broken windows and most of the houses are burnt out. I'd stay in Italy if I were you. The weather is better anyway.
