There are no swear words in the Welsh language. We are God faring chapel people and if we swore everybody would be talking about us in the corner shop |

LOL at "arlanymors" answer!!
As in most families in all countries, parents do not like to hear their children swear, the Welsh mother is no different. |

It's not "wrong" but like everywhere else it would depend on the upbringing of the person involved but having said that When my Old Dad Bless Him was teaching me Welsh I er wasn't the best student and I think the naughty bits were some of the first words I learnt lol |

I visited Wales a few years ago and encountered a group of teenage girls speaking in Welsh during which the word fu** appeared very prominently. |

I am 55 , Welsh, and have never sworn in front of my mother.
My children do not swear in front of me either (though I suspect they do otherwise!) |

I agree with Star but someone has given her a thumbs down, swearing shows a complete lack of intelligence. and vocabulary.....anywhere, not just Wales. |

1) You don't mess with a Welsh Mam!
2) Yes, we Welsh swear, I think he was just messing. But I never swore in front of my parents as they thought it was 'common'.
3) There are plenty of swear words in Welsh. One of the most popular is 'Twll dy din'.
In some parts of North Wales 'cont' meaning c**t is used as a term of endearment. For instance 'Iawn, cont'? means 'Alright, c**t'? |

It's kinda wrong to swear everywhere, not just in Wales.
Although when i was in school when i was 11 we had people from a play company come to give a play in Welsh and it had tonnes of swearing in. |

LOL at arlanymor's answer :) There are plenty of "geiriau rhegi", although I suspect "ffy*" would be the commonest, though swearing much beyond an astonished "Duw!" wouldn't go down very well among chapel-goers. I'm 50, though, and I would never under any circumstances have sworn in front of my parents and older relatives when they were alive. |

I always think that people who swear a lot lack enough vocabulary to express themselves without the need.
I also think that people who decide that certain words are swearing and unacceptable are short of something to worry about.
Welsh people swear, not all of them, they are no better or worse than any one else.
It is simple to use a substitute swear word, like Ronnie Barker did in Porridge. He introduced the word Naffing. Then there is the act of using an every day word as an insult like Tosser. So whilst there are a list of words called swear words, it is just as easy to make it seem like you are swearing by using a substitute word. Blinking and Blooming were often used in films in the 1950s because in those days films were censored and swearing was not permissible in the cinema. |

Depends which part of Wales. The more traditional country-living welsh people are often churchgoers and don't really abide swearing. However, if you've ever been to Rhyl, you'll know that swearing is considered "the norm". |
