Since the end of the War of 1812, the US and UK have been friends/allies. This relationship is one the most crucial to us, like France, Canada, Australia. We know that we can rely on them and vice-versa. Our culture is most similar to England's.

It is soooooooooooooo sad that someone who lives in either England or the U.S. (and I am assuming it is the U.S.) has to ask this sort of a question. England and the U.S. are political allies. We're on friendly terms, but it is partly because of questions like this that people have trouble respecting Americans.

younosygit
Good grief. It's sad that somebody even has to ask this question. They haven't fought each other since the War of 1812, and while there were arguments over where exactly the Canadian border was in the next 50 years or so, we haven't had a huge argument in the last 150 years.

We may not be too keen on your current president, and be mystified as to why on earth you were so stupid as to vote him back into office the second time, but we don't generally hold it against the American people in general.

friends. its been tht way for like ever

Max
I think England is one of the best, probably the best Ali that the U.S. has.

Rod
Friends!

Catholic Mythbuster
Whoever told you that the US and the UK were enemies doesn't know a thing about world politics.

The UK and the US have been allies for many, many years, which is why if Scotland chooses to succeed from the UK when the refferandum happens in 2010, the US will most likely back England in keeping a slavehold over their northern neighbor.

Friends...with benefits.

Allies, which is a friendly association which benefits both parties but not necessarily friends

Most people despise American foreign policy, it baffles us that George W Bush got a second term in office but most people don't hold it against ordinary American folk

JT
Well the governments are friends
Most British and Americans like each other
Some other will have their opinions on each others' countries and people

We are friends. I heard that England helped us a lot with funding for the war, but I'm not sure if thats true or not, but we are really friends.

Friends and allies last I heard. We have our differences but we seem to be able to overcome them and do think fondly of each other.

I would say they were friends with us as:
1. we fought the war with them so they have no reason to hate us
2. we have american rowers every year and they do not seem to have a problem with us!

A friend of mine took a trip to England recently and was amazed that the British people regard the United States as allies but still resent that they rejected British rule two centuries ago!
