"Super" is a subjective word, though.

It is now only a 'small super power', if by that you mean militarily. But it is still a 'big super power' in terms of its diplomatic and international reputation and links. And as some one pointed out, it still has enough nuclear weaponry to give any aggressor a very severere headache!

'Oobilt Gleep' please note... The British Empire was not a force for 'evil' at all. Seen in the context of its heyday, it did what all ambitious and exploratory nations did - it went out and discovered the world! As a result there is an enormous number of nations that are still proud to be linked to the UK through the British Commonwealth of Nations (go to http://www.execulink.com/~donslau/BC.html to see just how many - it is an enormous number), so the UK clearly was not that evil.
You, however, imply that it did nothing good... you seem to have overlooked that it gave a judicial system still in use today in most of those countries, it gave a parliamentary system for democratic debate, founded schools and universities, gave a second language which has become a universal tongue, gave (and continues to give) financial and other aid to those countries, and when the time came for an 'Empire' country to assume independence, it was, with few exceptions, handed over without conflict.
There are many other points that could be made to refute your sweeping allegation, but Answers needs to be limited in length.

depends on which definition you believe. Yes, we could unleash nuclear weapons on another Country, is that a super power? Ordinarily (ignoring the current government) we could sit around a table and be a force in negociating a peace or otherwise and our opinion would be listened to- does that make us a super power?
We have nuclear weaponary, and could if we chose build an arsenal of weapons to blow the world up ten times over, but we don't- maybe that makes us a super power???

Superficially, yes; in reality no.

If we can replace Trident then yes we will be again. Until then we rely on America and I don't know about you but with a . . . in charge of the whitehouse I am not too happy about this arrangement.

In global military terms, no, although we do punch well above our weight, considering the size of our armed forces. In financial and diplomatic terms, yes, we are still a superpower, with huge influence on world events.

It is a steange expression _ super power!
Maybe it should be "potential to destroy the world" power?
Too long winded - fair enough!
No - Britain isn't a super power.
The USA is and flexes it's muscels every so often to remind the world who is the boss.
The UK is significant - as recent world crisis have shown - and has helped keep the peace in some areas (Cyprus for example) even if a little bitter at times.
Go back a century & Britain was a super power.
You must judge for yourself if the planet is better off now with just the USA as a super power or if it was better during the cold war period (iron curtain days) when the status quo was a balance between two major forces - the USSR & the USA

there is only 1 super power at the moment and that is the USA,Russia used to be the other one.

As long as it stays glued the the USA, it can, at minimum, pretend to still be a superpower.

When the UK had its empire, it was one of the most destructive forces on the planet. Effects of its global activities can still be felt today. None are good.
