Bicycle works fine. Train is good. If you are a certain age (under 25 I believe) you can buy a card for young people which may save you a pretty penny.
If you are coming in from abroad, an interrail ticket may be a good idea. |

Yes buy a Britrail Pass; these are very good value and the train is faster and more comfortable than buses/coaches; the network is extensive and frequent and there are many scenic routes. www.britrail.com |

try www.megabus.co.uk - They offer cheap fares but it only works properly if you start or end in London. Or buy funfares on nationalexpress.co.uk |

I travelled upto Edinburgh from London for under £5 by coach. It takes a while but if you're on a budget then that and using the Youth Hostel Association (www.yha.org.uk) is a great way of travelling around GB on a budget. As someone else also said, National Express are also really good. The futher ahead you pre-book the cheaper the journey. Good luck! |

If you plan on using the train, book in advance you can save a fortune. Same deal with airfairs!
If you're between 16-25 and plan on doing a lot of travel by train get a railcard. http://www.railcard.co.uk/
Depending on how lnog you're in each area, Check out local rail cards, season tickets and Rover & Ranger tickets on the national rail website.
Another tip for rail travel (this has saved me a fortune) - Split your tickets, not your journey. Instead of buying tickets for the whole journey, buying tickets for its constituent parts separately can slash the price – even though you're travelling on exactly the same train. Megabus is good for long distance travel, however local travel is cheapest by local bus, otherwise advance purchase train tickets are the cheapest, or maybe National Express coaches |
