London is a great place sure you gotta stay away from certain parts but that's like anywhere else really. it has so much life, energy and it's always buzzing north London's nice too. but if i was u i would hit central London first and travel round their for a while check out wot London has to offer and you must go to the theater in the west end i cant get enough of that lol.
beware the British can be very stereotypical to the Americans but just be your self and enjoy the wonders of London oh
p.s remember to save as much money as possible it's expensive
and a tip for you when your in London the trick is to look up because that's where most of the beauty is in the architecture and old buildings hope you have a wicked trip to London xx |

Parts of London are glorious, leafy and quiet with parks and good amenities. Parts are horrendous and I wont even drive there in the daytime.
London is a big, cosmopolitan city and its exciting, busy, loud and wonderful. Its everything you want but also has everything you don't want.
As Echelon said...Croydon (although not actually London...sucks!) dont go there!
We would love to have you here but you must be careful about choosing a location in which to live, but that is the same in any city around the world.
I love north London as I have lived there for over 40 years, but Greenwich in south London is lovely too. Its your choice.
Welcome anyway..and I hope you enjoy your time here |

I like it because I have lived in London all my life. As Francis Bacon said "if you are tired of London, you are tired of life" (He was a friend of Shakespere by the way) |

love London. It has it's fair share of problems, is expensive, but I love it anyway. There were times when I tried to get away, but it keeps calling me back.
Transport can be a bit of a nightmare, but there isn't any place you can't get to in London,by public transport. I'm biased so I will say that the West of london is great place to live, there is easy acces to Central London and all it's nightlife. Places to avoid renting is in Hackney, it has quite a reputation for crime and violence, in fact avoid most of East London as a rental option, unless you'd like to live in the more bohemian area like Hoxton.
The people of London are, in the main welcoming, although we can be considered rude, it's just a by product of living in a frenetic city.
Don't worry about the negative comments, there will always be these negative aspects in every big city, but London does have alot to offer. Come and enjoy it, I'm sure you'll meet some great and not so great people, but I can honsetly say you will have a great time. |

I have only visited London but I have lived in NYC. I think the key here is whether or not you like "Big City" life. It is much different than smaller cities or towns. I am from Houston (which is quite large) and NYC and London still seem completely different. London is actually cleaner than most big cities in the US and many others around the world. Sure, there is a lot of pollution but you can not miss the lingering scent of lavender throughout the nicer areas. Also, as long as you don't act like an "ignorant American" most people will accept you for who you are, not where you are from.
A note about the exchange rate: It will kill you. Save up alot because currently $1 USD is only 50 pence and London is an expensive city to begin with.
Good Luck! |

London - like every other place in the world there are good parts and then the bad. Some people are only giving u negative points becuase that maybe wot they have experienced or heard of.
London - Tourist attraction - some places are full of americans who do as they wish - no probz
It seems like its expensive to rent everywhere. If you can afford 2, live in West London or North west london - nicest parts in my opinion |

you yanks love this place, its buzzing all the time like new york but without all the shootings.
I know a few Americans over and they are doing fine: they mostly work at fresh and wild (which is now own by your "Whole Foods Company") |

I think the main problem you will have here in London is your inability to punctuate!
Also - It was Samual Johnson who said "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life" and not Francis Bacon as indicated earlier. Different time and era. |

I didn't get to be around london for long... three weeks (two years ago), and I fell in love with the place! My next goal in life is to settle there and get me a job in some of museums there...I got to see a beautiful place, where nice people lived in. I found London peaceful, and not as much polluted as any other big city. |

London is dirty and very expensive, and crime is also a big problem. Try living elsewhere in England and just visit London and you will have a better quality of life. We don't have a problem with Americans, but you will undoubtedly come across a small element of bigotry that is the same pretty much wherever you go. One final thing: The £/$ exchange rate is going to make it seem doubly expensive, whereas we can go to the US and things seem remarkably cheap. Otherwise, come on and join us, we don't bite! |

London is pretty expensive, that's true, and there are some places that are really dirty, but for me it's great. It's my hometown and I go back there everytime I can.
You always can find something suitable there. |

here are very few English/Londoners left in London I have not lived there for about 5 years and I would never live there again, however some people do like London some parts of it are a **** hole but there are still some nice parts, Thing may well have changed in North London because of the Olympics, it used to be awful, if you choose South London go to Dulwich or Greenwich London is a vibrant city and there is a lot to do. Loads of pubs. |

Parts fo London's quite interesting and nice, some aren't. Before you move consider moving to the nicer, cleaner, low crime parts of London. Be careful of stereotypical british people too. |

Hi Patrick F,
As with every other city I've ever been to in my life, London has some lovely bits, some very grotty bits, and plenty of OK bits.
Obviously the lovely bits tend to be the most expensive places to live, but you'll find a lot of Australians and Americans live in and around the Olympia area in the SW of London which is OK. The north does tend to be better, and there are some nice places around Harrow in the NW.
Don't get put off by all the doom and gloom merchants. London can be a real fun place to be, and you'll soon see for yourself when you get here where to go and where to avoid.
.....and we don't hate Americans generally - it's just that we hate the loud, opinionated ones who think they run the world. Learning to call the game "football" instead of soccer would also help (I've never understood why you guys call your game "football" when the ball hardly ever gets kicked).
Me? - I hate the place now - but then I'm a country boy and I did enjoy going there when I was in my teens and 20s just for the buzz.
Hope you enjoy your stay. |

I hate it, it's overcrowded, people are rude everywhere you go, violence/crime is getting worse every year and it's dirty. As soon as i can afford it i will be going home to Staffordshire.Biggest mistake of my life was moving here i wish i had stayed at home. The only true positive thing i can say about London is, i like to walk along by the river that's it. |
