Is there really any point staying in the uk? |
Everyday i go online or open a paper its more dread and fear about the recession. something im sure the media are perpetuating. I have been out of work for about 4 months and am looking to simply leave the uk. I am degree educated but am more than aware that really means nothing in recent years. I work as a builder but every site i go to seems to be full of polish who cant speak english. How many native brits will leave this land and what future effect will it have? Additional Details good comments all round. I am just very p**sed off with the liberal nature of this country that is turning the indiginous people into a very demoralised population. I have even considering joining the armed forces but this government has made enough f**k ups and im not keen on putting my life in the hands of such incompetance. But remember the same people they have allowed the british to become lazy are the same liberal socialists who have supported mass uncontrolled immigration. I am not going to flock to australia like everyone else and become australias equivilant of the Polish. I am not even concerned with money (unlike most of our immigrants). I realised my degree was worthless long before the current economic problems, but the government wanted as many people as possible into university, they never thought about the job market at the end of it. Even without the economic problems, things in this nation need to change! |

I do see what you mean, and robdunf has a point!
I am planning on getting a degree over here. I am educated, but am struggling to get a second job, as my first one is supply work "as and when needed". And thanks to the shitty recession, people in my work are panicking about work, and taking on more shifts, leaving me with none. So I am going to see a woman about a waitressing job tomorrow, and fingers crossed.
You know, it really annoys me when people say "We have the likes of the Poles over here because non of the Brits wanted to do the jobs". Hello? I worked for £2.41 an hour at 16 in a shop, done jobs like cleaning schools etc. It seemed to have been an excuse to rope the immigrants in (thanks to the legendary Gordon Brown... not). Now students and many other people like me who are getting made redundant are on the look out for these sorts of jobs. And why cant we get any? Er, because we seemed to fill all of them with Poles! This is why I am fed up with Britain. Many people who I have spoken to who are "pro mass immigration" are now in fact agreeing with me.
Stick in with your job. The thing I find, having worked with many Poles, is that they tend to keep themselves to themselves. Yes, work hard or what not, but they dont tend to talk to us. So ignore them. Just you get on with the job. Is it possible you can speak to your boss about this (oh please dont say he's Polish as well! lol).
One day, I may decide to leave Britain, but who knows. Take each day as it comes, and keep your head up! :) |

Its only worth while if you weren't born here. Before anyone jumps on me for being racist, I'm not. I don't blame the non-Brits, I blame the Government. |

Heh heh. Where do you think you are going to go?
The building trade in the UK has been so full of cowboys for so many years, that nobody in their right mind would prefer a British builder over the Poles. |

Of course there is a point that is why the Eastern Europeans have come here. If more native Brits leave it will not have any great long-term effect in fact in the short term it would actually ease unemployment situation for those that remain. You've had a great education here stay and use it or leave and learn more in another country, we who remain will carry-on regardless. I have 8 members of family who live and work overseas (Canada and Australia) - they all still regard themselves as Brits and they are in the same situation as us, worried about their pensions and businesses. |

Polish workers get jobs because they are hard working and having spoken to a couple of local job managers, they reckon they have to force them to take breaks. This makes them attractive to bosses.
However, it is all doom and gloom, listening to the news, reading a paper.
New Zealand and Australia are currently looking for trade workers, many have been amazed that they can work for a site manager down under, for the same money as they were getting for site managing in this land. The hours are often shorter, and the overtime is well paid.
Try not to let it get you down too much, but, if you are determined to move, you could do a lot worse than Australia. |
