Parts of the country (not neccessarily countries, but counties) have different holiday dates. It could be half-term (where they get a weeks break), or exam leave for certain grades, I know that GCSE exam leave is still on and most of the A Level exam leaves have ended this week. Some schools have teacher-training days also, so the students don't have to attend that day.

No but why u r bothered.

Its exam time here in Dorset. Lots of teenagers hanging about instead of studying! And they tell us doing GCSE is really HARD! Bring back O levels then they would know how hard it is! No coursework to bump up your grade just a good old fashioned HARD exam!

Now I have got off my soap box.....Good Morning Sam!

I often ask myself this question. Go shopping in any supermarket and you will see numbers of school children often accompanied with their parents. I went to Portugal last week and it seemed that half the population of the UK's school children were there also.

Different schools have different odd days off - set by the school itself - these fall into two catagories.

1 INSET days - these are staff training days when pupils do not have to attend.

2 OCCAISIONAL days - a set number of individual days which each school is allowed to choose for its self - these allow the school to meet the legal requirement for pupil days at school (so they do not exceed the maximum)

It can be different for different schools in any area.
