I voted NO. I will always vote NO. I already pay enough for fuel tax, road tax and VAT on the cars that I purchase and the goods and services I buy to maintain them.
If the public transport infrastructure of this country was good there would be no need to reduce congestion. The governments take the billions from road users and throw it away instead of investing in public transport.
Anybody that thinks Manchester would have benefited from improved public transport is deluding themselves. There is no "public" transport in Manchester, private companies run it and profit from profitable routes, ignoring those that aren't economically viable. |

Yey!!! Well done to everyone who put the right votes in.
I really hope they don’t find a way. But the idea to have tolls was supported by loads and loads of people up in high places :-(
Also, slogans such as 'think how much better it would be for the planet if less people drove' could quite easily win some people over (like naturalists etc) but no way near the majority....?!
If most people said no this time then I think that shows a good start for a pretty solid defence.
Good Q!

They won't need to bring it in.
people will get so p----d off with sitting in traffic ques, and not being able to park when they get into manchester that they will prefer to use the train.
i go to manchester regular by train from ne lancs and i can tell you this.
its less expensive, hassle free and saves a fortune on parking and petrol.
going by train i am less stressed out and get into the center of Manchester faster than i can by car |

How unanimous? What percentage?
Something has to be done about congestion, instead of rubbishing the current proposals, how about putting up until someone can think of anything better? Feel free to have a go yourself, I'm sure they'll be glad to hear any constructive comments. |

It was a pretty conclusive result but it was Not unanimous.
Anyway Manchester people will regret that decision in years to come when they are all sitting in their cars in one big car park. |

Give it time and people will be demanding for it to be brought in |

Just heard it myself...
Here's the thing, if it was a yes, then the money come from drivers and public transport users to help pay for better services and reduce congestion therefore saving time (eventually) with the shortfall being paid for from council tax.
Now the shortfall is the whole lot so its all gonna come out of the council tax, meaning the council tax will go up a lot more than usual... and we'll have more traffic on the road and be out of pocket just as much. |
